For all of us fans who didnt jump off a building last night, this is for us! http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1240495-2012-nba-draft-results-team-by-team-report-cards/page/12 Lock if posted already
Well guys, just when we were starting to let things sink in and start to think maybe it wasn't such a bad draft night, Bleacher Report has to go and say it was a success. Thus validating failure.
Some people here need to chill out. It's not like the Rockets are the NBA's version of the Pittsburgh Pirates...
whatever y'all, if it you need something more reputable, NBA TVsays we are huge winners too! http://www.nba.com/video/channels/draft/2012/06/29/rockets_draft_review.nba/ Let's see how negative everyone is now haha
For what it's worth, these guys gave Houston an A- as well: Can someone please post the insider draft grades from ESPN?
It seems that when media outlets grade the players we chose with our 3 picks, we get a high grade. But when they judge the draft based on what we were trying to do, they call us losers. I don't think it's fair to judge us on what we tried to do when they're judging all other teams on who they chose with their picks, not by what they tried to do. Our picks are solid talents. And talent is of value in trades.
The true judge of this draft can only be made after we see our roster come training camp. Then we will see what the whole idea was to draft these players and we do with our existing ones. Until then this is an incomplete for me. IF you base this on talent alone. We did well. If you factor in what we already have on the team, the grade drops drastically. Now the only grade left is after moves are made which I am sure will be 100% coming up in the future.
Honestly, a lot of people have said we had a pretty good draft. The only reason some columnist have considered us losers was because of all the build up heading into the draft. At the end of the 3, we came away with some special talent. Although the forward selections might not have been the best choices, Morey went BPA and all 3 of our first round picks have a high ceiling.
I could go to Bleacher Report right now and write a story about how Lamb is the next Michael Jordan. Would that make it true?
What we are trying to do is to get ourselves some All-Stars. To that end we drafted three players who have the potential to be All-Stars. The "judge by what they are trying to do they failed" analysts are morons; we did extremely well judging by what we were trying to do. Had we drafted "for need" and gotten players who merely have the potential to turn into rotation guys who "fill a need" like those moronic analysts wanted, then we would have failed judging by what we were trying to do.
People said that we had a good draft because they're looking at the draft for the guys we actually drafted. They don't care about the context of this draft, that we needed it to make trades to remold the roster, that we don't need 4 rookies next year on top of the other 5 rookie contract guys we already have. If you were to grade the draft just on picking up 3 solid rookies, that yeah we might grade well. But, it'd be dumb to ignore that it doesn't help our team to do that. The build-up and the letdown are both symptoms of the same cause -- that the Rockets needed to make trades.
