Man, I wanted Carlos Boozer. Who cares about Snackbar and Prince, or Woods? If we had drafted Boozer, we would have no problem at 4 and probably are a 1 away from winning the whole damn thing!:p

    Woods shown the door
The Blazers waive the suspended guard on the same day he pleads guilty in an animal abuse case
    Saturday, January 22, 2005

Qyntel Woods' troubled career is over with the Trail Blazers, but not the NBA.

Woods' agent, Raymond Brothers, said the 6-foot-8 guard has been working out daily with a personal trainer in Los Angeles and will sign with another NBA team by Tuesday afternoon.

"There are offers out there for Qyntel," Brothers said. "There are three or four teams that have to make a decision. The other teams in the league have done their research, and they all feel the process with the Trail Blazers has been unfair."

Brothers said that three teams in the Eastern Conference and one in the Western Conference tried to execute a trade with the Blazers since Woods was suspended by the team Oct. 12. But on each occasion, Brothers said, general manager John Nash rejected the offers. Nash is out of the country scouting and was unavailable for comment.

"Since he has been waived, my phone has been ringing off the hook," Brothers said.

The Blazers waived Woods shortly after the guard pleaded guilty to first degree misdemeanor animal abuse in Clackamas County circuit court Friday morning. Woods received one year of probation and was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service within the next nine months. He also volunteered to pay $10,000 to the Oregon Humane Society.

Woods will be placed on the NBA's waiver wire, allowing every team, starting with the organization with the worst record, to have an opportunity to sign him. If he is picked up off the waiver wire, that team will take on the $551,100 remaining on his Blazers contract.

If no team takes him during the waiver process, Woods can sign with any team, after which the Blazers and the new team would have to pay him. Teams will have until Tuesday morning to select Woods off the waiver wire.

However, Blazers president Steve Patterson said the Blazers "are not paying him a cent."

"He has cost us millions in cash and tens of million in bad publicity," Patterson said. "If you can't waive a guy for breach of contract after that, I don't know when you can."

Brothers said the National Basketball Players Association will fight the Blazers' decision to suspend Woods for eight exhibition games and the first 38 regular season games. The union is seeking a settlement in which the Blazers pay Woods his entire $1.127 million this season, while the Blazers are claiming their suspension was just.

The issue will go to arbitration, but it is unknown when.

"The Trail Blazers have been making up their own rules as they go along," Brothers said. "There will be other litigation going on in the next few weeks. . . . Steve Patterson's conduct has been unacceptable."

Woods has been living in Los Angeles with Brothers since October. Brothers has been picking up his living expenses while the Blazers continued to withhold $12,525 for every game he was suspended.

Woods declined to be interviewed Friday, in part on the advice of Brothers.

"It's not appropriate for him to talk right now," Brothers said. "There is going to be other stuff happening in the next couple of weeks that people will understand when it comes out."

However, Brothers said that Woods wanted to thank the Blazers coaching staff -- particularly head coach Maurice Cheeks and assistants John Loyer, Jim Lynam and Dan Panaggio -- for periodically checking in on Woods during his suspension.

Would you guys sign Ruben Patterson if he were available?

Because he got a lot more minutes in Portland than Woods.

Besides, he ONLY sexually assaulted his maid.

This guy has done absolutely nothing to show he has what it takes to be a player in this league. All he has done is contribute to Portland's "Jail Blazer" image and refuse to succeed or try to improve.

    Anybody consider trying him out?

I know he may be a head case and hasn't shown much in the NBA. He's played pretty well in the summer leagues (which probably doesn't mean much)and he's still young, athletic, and tall. Couldn't we put Reese on IR and pick up Q for the minimum? Supposedly he's a good ball-handler, he could sub at the 2 or 3. He could even be tall enough (6'8") to play athletic PF against shorter PFs. Remember that Griffin was a head case and is now doing well.

I seriously doubt that of all the available players everywhere - Les Alexander* is going to okay signing someone who got waived because he was fighting his dogs.

    * That's Les "Animals have Rights Too" Alexander

Just saw on ESPN ticker that Miami Heat has signed this kid, Qyntel Woods.

So we will likely see him in action against us this Sunday on ABC.

Reminds me of a story my uncle told me when his dog decided to nip aunt in the leg unprovoked, one day. Bad move by the dog.

Last I heard it became hot dog for piss-up.
