this is such a terrible trade for the clippers it makes no sense whatsoever from any standpoint...they get expirings for an expiring and some cash...no picks...they are still going to need to sign FAs next seasons nothing...camby could have been much more valuable to many teams out there.

this was about as no brainer of a move possible by pritchard goes to show that dunleavy is just as stupid of a GM as he is head coach.

i just would like to see what his spin is on this on how it helps the clippers in any sort of way. a pg when your best player plays PG and an injured wing guy who wont play again this season.

if i was a clipper season tix holder (all 10 of them) i would demand an explanation from dunleavy

They can now develop Jordan, work in Outlaw while working out Thorton, possibly resign Outlaw... I don't see what the big deal is really. You are getting a little too worked up over the Clippers. BTW I don't know the extend of Outlaw's injury but I assume he will be fine next season.

Jeebus, I'd just like to reiterate that Denver traded Camby TWO YEARS AGO for a trade exception (money in the future), which became Affalo two years later. In the meantime, the Camby deal had absolutely no factor in preventing or allowing the Iverson Billups deal and the subsequent Nuggets success. We fans (me included) value Camby much higher than NBA GMs (plural, not just Dunleavy) because he's a stat monster. But at this point in his career (and even two years ago), he's not worth much in terms of team-winning value.

For those who think Dunleavy got played here, please state some players, picks, and salary that you believe are market value for Camby. Look, I'm not saying Dunleavy is a good GM, just that Camby ain't worth much and this deal isn't some obvious stupidity.

While i agree that fans probably tend to value Camby more than NBA gms, due to his gaudy stats or perceived talents, its undeniable that the clippers made a bade trade here. Even if we assume Camby was just an avg player, he still had good trade value simply for being a 10+ million dollar expiring contract. Not only is he a valuable commodity for the many teams trying to reduce payroll or gain cap space, hes also a commodity for playoff/contending teams who need more size, defenders to match up with the lakers/cavs/magic.

At worst the Clippers should have sent him off to a cap saving team like NY/philly/was/indi for a mid size bad contract like jared jeffries/lou williams in addition to picks or prospects. Or they could have tried to find a buyer among the contending teams like Miami, toronto etc and get something besides an exchange of expiring contracts as they did with Portland.

Apart from doing nothing for the clippers, the trade was great for Portland as they were able to fill a huge hole at their 5 spot without either taking on bad contracts, giving away prospects, picks or contributing players. (No steve blake is not a contributing player.) Furthermore it opens up more minutes for rudy and Bayless. For the Clippers, they basically will get a short rental of the talented Travis Outlaw recovering from injuries, who i doubt would resign or that the clippers would try to resign next year. Oh the clippers also get to have steve blake for the rest of season... splash.

Following this reasoning though, the Clippers are arguably no worse off than before. They're no better off either if they let Outlaw and Blake become nothing. I guess it all depends on what happens with the contracts of Outlaw and Blake...if they move them the next few days or decide to retain them beyond this year, or SnT them this off-season.

I don't see how a Jarred Jeffries ($7mill) from the Knicks for Camby is a better deal for the Clippers. If you and I both agree that the Knicks would jump all over that, then our disagreement comes on the Clippers end. I guess it's subjective. Would the Knicks throw draft picks? Why would the Clippers give the Knicks more contract space just to pay Jeffries for 2 years?

Honestly, this move is great for the Blazers this season but a totally maybe beyond. And for the Clippers it's a total wash of a move for this season and possibly great beyond. IMO they have to believe that they really want Outlaw and think they can keep him (or turn him for something else later). If they end up keeping Outlaw then it'd be a great deal. It's better than a TE that becomes a 2 yr wait to get Affalo (which is what the Nuggets traded Camby for).

So I guess we'll wait and will be better informed down the line.

This is a great trade for the Blazers. A lot of you might not realize it, but Outlaw makes Von Wafer look like Shane Battier when it comes to Bball IQ. The Blazers have been giving him 1-on-1 coaching for 5 years now and he still doesn't get where he has to be on the court and what he has to do. Steve Blake has always been underrated but IMHO he has always been a crutch for Brandon Roy. Ever since they started playing together Blake has always been content with just standing on the 3 pt line rafer style, and that's not going to get it done. With him gone Roy will have to learn to coexist with pgs who also need the ball (i.e. Miller and Bayless), and in return they get an expiring contract whom they can plug at the C spot.

For the Clippers, I can sort of understand, but they're gonna be surprised when they find out Outlaw is just as dumb basketball wise as Thornton. Trading Camby away without any sort of picks at all shows why the Clippers will always be one of the NBA's most pathetic franchises.
