Why would the Hornets do this? Don't they need depth?? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/news/story?id=3459658 The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Hornets to acquire the 27th pick in the draft for cash considerations, a Blazers source told ESPN.com. The deal was agreed to verbally between the two teams on Tuesday night, according to the source. The teams have scheduled a trade call with the league in the morning to make the deal official. Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard has been very active in the past few drafts acquiring picks. Armed with the financial might of owner Paul Allen, the Blazers acquired the 23rd pick in the draft last year and drafted Rudy Fernandez. They also used cash to acquire Sergio Rodriguez in 2006. It's unclear who the Blazers are eyeing at No. 27. One possibility is Croatian big man Ante Tomic, who the Blazers have coveted for years. Other potential targets are French swingman Nicolas Batum, who has slipped in the draft because of concerns about his heart, and Memphis swingman Chris Douglas-Roberts. man the rockets should have done this and traded it with another player to move up. or something. use some of that chinese money, our government is doing it.
I'm starting to get annoyed by Portland and their draft day deals. They've screwed us over one too many times.
And I thought they wanted to get rid of picks... Possibly this is just a piece in a bigger trade to move up?
the trailblazers are gonna be sick for years to come. they are gonna have great depth for cheap with all there picks
There has to be something going on. Portland doesn't want more young players on their roster. I'm sure they won't be drafting two players at 13 & 27, both of whom will have guaranteed contracts. My guess is they will unload the #13 pick (plus maybe Outlaw) for a veteran player but they still wanted a cheap 1st round pick because they have their eye on someone. Icehouse, good question about the Hornets.
Agree with this. Don't understand Portland jumping on getting a late 1st because they don't have a lot of room on their roster, iirc. As far as the Hornets ... don't they just have a ****ty owner? Not much of a head scratcher there.
blazers should go after gilbert. trade their young assets, and pair him up with oden and roy. plus whatever young players they have left with. or they should go after prince/billups/rip. at least one of them. outlaw + pick + another young player for prince.
Portland would be nasty if they could pull off a deal for Billups and/or Prince. Billups/Roy in the backcourt and Aldridge/Oden up front would be sick.
Wow.....this news stunned me... I am loving what Portland is doing...if I was a Portland fan. But how come Morey hasn't been able to buy these picks like the Blazers are doing???!!! so a team who's bench was bonzi wells last year decides to sell their first rounder for cash.
This is a question I've been wondering for a long time... How come Pritchard was able to buy all these picks in the last few years(and probably this year as well?!)?! Did Morey wanted those picks? Then how come Pritchard is able to get it instead of us?
