I loved clyde when he was here...the championship year....however, i want to bring back one moment that was not his brightest that might have cost us another ring...and I know its painful but just to be fair to the thread starter, I will mention it...rmemeber when clyde jacked up that ill advised shot in game 6 against the jazz when we still had like 5 seconds left on the shot clock and then Stockton beat us at the buzzer to knock us out....I will never forget that bonhead play but still he is a legend in this city and deservedly so...

I honestly forgot about the circumstances behind Stockton having time to launch that shot. I do remember the feeling of incredible disgust and helplessness after it though. All kidding aside, maybe my feelings of Clyde come from my repressed memories of this game.

what if Vince Young leaves the Titans after 5 superbowl wins and comes to Houston and wins one last superbowl so he and Robert Horry can hang out as the greatest winners in the universe club. Would they retire Vince's jersey after 1 year with the Texans cause he's a superhero who grew up in Houston?

The fact that Clyde is a mediocre announcer shouldn't make you forget how good he was on that 95 team.

No Clyde = No 1995 championship.

Not to mention the fact that he was one of the more consistent and injury-free Rockets stars over the next 3 years.

If Vince Young can lead the Texans to a Super bowl, he should be elected to the Hall of Fame.

Did the Chiefs do anything for Joe Montana for actually giving Marty Shottenheimer a playoff win??

Hehe. No, but they should have sent a gift to the Oilers for being so agreeable.

His valued soared in the postseason. In that 22 playoff game run, he was the teams' second leading scorer behind Olajuwon with 20.5 ppg while also grabbing 7.0 rpg and dishing out 5.0 apg. In the Finals sweep over the Orlando Magic, his production even increased to 21.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 6.8 apg. In the conference finals, he and Olajuwon became the third set of teammates to score 40 points in a playoff game as Drexler hit for 41 in Game 4 against the Jazz.

Would that do it for a player that wasn't from Houston?

did you forget he went to the Finals twice with Portland?

i know that has nothing to do with the Rockets, but has everything to do with the greatness of Clyde.

yep, the rockets came back from a 2-1 deficit to win game 5 in utah. memories. I still remember watching that game in austin as stockton and malone dejectedly walked off the court.

funny how you say he couldn't get it done in portland.

went to the finals in 90 and 92, was the 2nd best guard during that era (behind jordan), multiple time all star, the guy accomplished alot....

he was an allstar in houston too, 1996,1997 i believe...and in his last season, he avg 18 & 5 assists

If you think Clyde rode cottails during the second title run then I suggest you go watch the 95 playoffs again. We were getting pimpslapped in Utah before Clyde turned it on. Same thing in certain games of the Phoenix series, game 1 of the Finals, etc. When I remember the 95 team the first thing I recall is Clyde being hungrier than every other Rocket because he was the one that hadn't won yet. That, and Hakeem kicking Robinson's butt....

The 1 thing I have learned from this thread is that Vince Young should be retired as a Houston Rocket asap. Ill take to the secretary of defense and see if he wants to retire him as an Ag too.

    6th seed without Clyde.
    Championship with...

people need to understand that the Rockets were NEVER a 1 man team.
they were a TEAM. like the championship Celtics, Lakers, and Detroit.

All those 'experts' are wrong. This does not detract that Dream was the greatest, it simple states that our TEAM was the greatest!

its about trust. they all trusted each other. Dream wouldnt pass that ball to Sam, or Clyde or Mario or Robert or Kenny if he thought they'd clag it.

They BELIEVED in Rudy's system. When we got rid of Otis, it was Rudy's genius that told him to play Horry at the PF spot (could Pippen play the 4? no).

there were no coatails of the Dream. this wasn't about SUPERMAN. it was about the XMEN.

With the two attempts (insincere) to come up with a hypothetical analogy (Beltran, Young), I'd say there's an obvious one.

What if we won the WS two years back with Clemens? Very similar circumstances. And yes, I think we'd retire his number if that had happened.
