So I was watching the Bobcats-Clippers game and the comentator (don't know his name) said a very interesting thing. So in the past Griffin was shooting his free throws with no dribble or anything, he just caught the ball and shot it. As we all know he was struggling, shooting just over 50% for the season. And 4 games ago Del Negro asked him to dribble the ball 3 times before every attempt so that he could get his balance and arch on the shot. The results? In the last 4 games Griffin has been 23/27 from the line. Amazing to me.
Basketball is a rhythm sport. One of many reasons why black people are so good at it, as oppose to snowboarding or other "extreme sports" (white people be acting crazyyy~ lol). Not being racist, its true. Think about it.
It's true and every good NBA player preaches it. Get a free throw routine and always do the same before you shoot a ft. Every good shooter with a decent release should be able to nail at least 75%, it's all mental.
Del Negro is a hall of fame coach. And I've been doing my FT's the same for years and I've always been a 1/10 shooter.
Are we really going to give Del Negro that much credit because he told him to dribble? Who doesn't dribble? Not many. It seems like an obvious thing to change to get some rhythm going.
Says the guy who never trys to help people shoot free throws better by telling them to dribble first.
I would think most people in a coaching role, at any level, would suggest that. Wouldn't you? It would stick out immediately that he's not dribbling first.
how do you not dribble before you take a free throw? It always came naturally to me, though I guess it's because i see pros do it all the time.
Yeah, I really never knew wtf Griffin was thinking not dribbling before shooting a free throw, made me feel weird.
