Blake Griffin should be suspended for being unprofessional.

Thats what he shoulda done instead of gambling for a charge.

I don't think he was getting done up. For him, he was playing decent. Jordan had an ok game. Griffin had a subpar game. he shot 5-14 from the field. he wasn't doing anybody up. Scola didn't play great defense, but much better than normal.

You don't see a lot of pull-the-chair defense these days. Definitely should be used more. I wonder if it's tried more subtly in the games and just doesn't work a ton, even though we as fans think it should? Probably not. The real reason is probably that you just don't see a lot of bang em, bang em, bang em post up play anymore.

He should have done pull-the-chair... that said, it's definitely not 100% clear he "gambled" for a charge. It legitimately looked like a charge. Sometimes you just get run over.

    1) Charges and block are the hardest call to make for a ref. We get to rewind to see what it more looked like.
    2) its always a gamble, so why risk it. If the refs are letting it, play back hard. Period.
    3) He did not lower his shoulder.
    4) He did not take a step back.
    5) Lets put it this way. Im 6 ft. If another 6ft was backing me down and I am bracing, he is not knocking me down from a backing up position. Lets redo that. Backing me down with only the momentum from half a step, he is not knocking me down. Unless he is Hawaiian or Samoan.

He barely dipped down with his half step to bump again. three times. Scola is the fool for taking those hits. Step back like Kenyon Martin did in the very same game.

Every defensive play is a gamble, even if you played perfect defense there is always a good chance the referees will call a foul on you.

Scola played the best defense I could think of for a man of his abilities and size in that situation. He isn't strong enough to stop Griffin from backing down, he isn't tall enough to contest an easy hook shot (which could have potentially led to an and one).

The positioning defense was designed specifically to counter players that are too big and too strong to guard. In this case Scola got position, his feet was set and Griffin just runs right over him.

I don't know why I'm responding to this thread so much??

Anyway, I think this characterization is off base. Maybe you're Hulk Hogan or something. Scola isn't. Blake is stronger, and WAS getting a "moving start" on his bumps. Blake had the momentum. Scola was trying to stand his ground. I'm not entirely sure what height has to do with it. Charles Barkley probably could have backed down Shaq. Maybe not... but I wouldn't put it past him. Backing down has a lot more physics involved than height.

I'd agree that he should have pulled a step back. But he didn't and that's not part of the play in question. I could equally argue that he should have been the aggressor from a momentum/bump perspective. That's a great defensive technique, too, in the post. When the entry pass is coming in, push the player out with a small bump. In between dribbles, push the player our with small bumps, etc. It's a momentum game sometimes.

Can some of you posters please stop b!itching & crying-you sound like Jazz fans. That is not what a true Rocket fan represents. We don't cry about calls. We stand our ground and earn the other teams respect with our play. I think our GM has learned from his mistakes and corrects the issue of non clutch players who flop as opposed to defend.

Let this thread die. There was nothing there to get your feelings hurt over. Unless Scola is man enough to do something about it without me constantly standing up for him? I dont care. It looks like nothing.

    ??

Stop pretending like we have some storied history of playing this way or that. We don't. And there certainly isn't a rulebook of what a "true Rocket fan represents."

We don't cry about calls? Please! Rockets player's cry about calls as much as the next team, and Rockets fans cry about calls like every team's fans. It's called sports and being a fan of sports.

Its also Blake Griffin. We are not talking about some scrub who is supposedly some enforcer that punishes guys with dirty plays. Stop being such wusses about it. He fell over Scola? So what? Thats what happens with Scolas style of play. Dont like it? Ask for him to be traded.

    Because debating is fun!!!

Now you mention Blake getting a moving start. Im sorry, but Scola isnt weak. Blake might be stronger but when braced, you have the advantage of any force trying to overcome you. think about a door. When someone is trying to open it, you can simply put your foot down and stop it from opening, thats bracing without much effort. While the angle is different and much more effort is needed to withstand bumps its still not going to be easy to knock over. The fact is Scola could have withstood those bumps but took the hardest bump and tried to sale it. He failed. the refs were letting the contact go (and I believe the next play Scola did the same thing to Blake???)

No I am no Hulk but its going to take a much stronger man to bump me down with his back/shoulder if I am already bracing, preparing for impact.

Honestly, if you want those charges, you need to be a known defender. Ie Battier or Hayes. Im sorry, but Scola is a known flopper.

truth but to compare, playing the charge is like betting on green while just playing strong defense, going red or black (roulette).

What I noticed about that, which we all have the past few years,

is Clyde Drexler adding next to NOTHING to that scene. NO RAW EMOTION, same old goober approach.

Thats when its OKAY to have some kind HOMER approach in the TENSE moments of the game. But his "right shoulder, right shoulder, again right shoulder" commentary sounded like him describing his own dance practice sequence in Dancing With The Stars.

I think people are misunderstanding my original post, Its already obvious to me that it should have been an offensive foul against Griffin, no doubt about it, but I'm trying to make you people realize that Griffin's mannerisms as a professional athlete after the whistle had blown against Scola should not be tolerated. Of course I'm over reacting about the suspension but he should have been T'd up. I still believe Griffin crossed the line after the play was over. As far as the actual play, which is what is being discussed here the most, it was an offensive foul against Griffin, but really showed me what kind of person he is. The entire purpose of this thread is to point out that Blake Griffin is a prick!
