LOL talk about overanalyzing the situation. He went for the block and he got owned. No need to scrutinize the position of knees (what?).

I'm not debating if there was a foul or not.

Why would i agree it's the dunk of the year when the year isn't even half over

I guess i pay more attention to it because of my major, so i'm looking for different things, like their body mechanics. To jump you need hip/knee/ankle extension. Bent knees gives you the opposite. Try jumping, while maintaining your knees bent, it's gonna feel like you're weighed down.

Another vote for "wasn't a dunk". He just threw it in the hoop really hard. If your hands don't touch the rim...ain't a dunk. People need to start fouling Griffin hard, flagrants if necessary. You can't let him go around thinking he's top dog like that.

    You are way overanalyzing.

Perkins tried to block, and failed. That's all there is to it.

You don't know what Perkins had in his mind, maybe he hesitated, maybe he didn't. Maybe he jumped because he thought he could fly for a second, maybe he jumped to get a better view of that chick sitting in the front row.

All we know is Perkins is in a basketball game so if he jumps towards a player attacking the basket he mostly wants to block it.

Rewatch clutch's first vid of the slo-mo. You can clearly see he touches the rim with his hand...

I do agree that he was expecting Blake to take a dribble.

There's no way in hell he was going for a charge, though. He was obviously looking to jump and try to stop that dunk from happening. He was just late because he expected a dribble.

That doesn't take away from how great the dunk was at all.

I didn't say he came over with the sole intent of blocking it. I said he came over with the sole intent of not allowing a dunk. Whether he blocked it, or fouled him hard, he was making sure that dunk didn't happen.

The dunk did happen, though... and it's one of the best dunks over the past few years.

I think the charge had to be in his mind, but i'm not sure how much. Griffin's made the same move before, but he'll take one dribble, bump the defender and go up for a hook. Good opportunity to draw a charge, but once Blake took off that was no longer possible.

And i'm sorry, i did misquote you, I thought you said he went for a block.

Sure he "touched" the rim, but it didn't even make a sound. ITS NOT A DUNK!

To all those saying it was not a dunk: you are a gimp.

Not a lay-up. He never laid the ball up in the air, he threw it down.

Not a tip-in. He never tapped the ball, he threw it down.

It was a dunk, and a damn fine impressive dunk.

You seem to be the only one who even care about my comment. But that's okay. Most people would forgive a little traveling, clearing out with you off-hand, using the defender's body as an leverage, jumping over the back etc. (not just talking about this dunk) as long as the final product is aesthetically appealing.

Actually, a lot of the so-called "facial" dunks are charging fouls because the dunker goes through rather than around the defender. If those were jump shots or layups, they would have been called offensive fouls.

BTW, I too don't get why you have to touch the rim to be a dunk. Lame complaint.

    Not a dunk.

It was a throw in, he just threw da ball in da net, even if his fingertips brushed the rim.

To qualify as a "dunk" you have to at least pull down da breakaway part of da rim or pull down on da rim w some force and make that "..........DUUHnnKK!!......." sound, not a "rip" sound or a "swish" sound.

    Otis Thorpe "dunked".

    According to Marriam-Webster and Wikipedia

    No mention of the rim...:)

    Yeah Perkins got crushed.

I don't think it ranks as the greatest, let's just appreciate it for what it is.

I've always felt a great facial dunk needs a few qualifying points:

    1) A defender who is aware the dunk is coming and challenges it. Much respect to him, you either get it or you don't. Standing there to take a charge isn't the same.

    2) Complete contact. No dunking past a player or beating them to the rim. As good as these are. Of course if you're LeBron, Blake, or VC feel free to jump over your opponent.

    3) Follow through. Let them know what's just happened. The defender hitting the deck is priceless as it allows for the step over.

    Case in point.

Griffin ticked 2 out of three boxes here, but his degree of difficulty was higher as Perk was in a better position to challenge. Great stuff.

I noticed the other day that I was rooting against the Clippers for the first time, but it's not because they are good. I root for KD because he's humble and has a great commitment to the game, even though he's one of the best and not on the Rox. Griffin and Paul have strong sense of entitlement that borders on douchebaggery.

Blake's dunk was great but it doesn't compare to a lot of those because as others have pointed out, he kinda throws it in instead of dunking it which is slightly easier to do and just doesn't look as good in slow mo.
