Plenty of time for Blake to improve his overall game. Hopefully he has the work ethic to make his offense more complete, because watching him post up this year was pretty embarrassing.
Man is exciting to watch, brings in seats, and attracts FAs to play with him. I'd say that's a Morey no-brainer.
That is a ****load of money, but it's what they have to pay to keep him. Keep in mind he's only 23 and averages 20+/10 on 55% shooting. Plus, he's the guy that made the Clippers cool and - more importantly - a desireable free agency destination. Sure, if his knees go out then you're kind of screwed, but he hasn't missed a single game since he recovered from surgery.
Thing is if you take his dunks away he becomes irrelevant as a player, hopefully he can earn the value of his contract over the next few years. Wish Dwight would get traded somewhere and we could move on... It's an annoying saga, Deron and Dwight don't seem to want to come here so we should move on and try to build a team through FA signings and the draft. Better to build loyalty that way too.
I think it's a good signing, with a couple of caveats. Someone was going to throw the max at him when they got the chance, so they were going to pay this anyway. Caveat 1 is that it'll be an albatross if he blows a knee, which is possible considering his history. Caveat 2 is they shold have waited as long as possible before committing themselves just in case that injury is coming in the short-term.
Yao's offense was miles ahead of griffin, and his defense was better also even with the slower foot speed of Yao. That said, thats the price of having a big man who is considered a all star, you gotta pay to play. If thats what it takes to keep him, then that's what it takes.
Let's just put it this way.. If Z-bo and Griffin were the same age or even close to the same age I'd go with Randolph. I like Griffin and he's exciting to watch but I'm a sucker for big men with actual post moves that get good positioning and know how to use their body. Which is another reason why I believe Love deserved the money he got more than Griffin but like others have said you have to pay BG as well cause if the Clippers don't someone else surely will.
Agreed. The amount of money Griffin will generate for the Clippers will probably exceed what they're paying him. So in regards to that, its a good extension. Unless he learns post moves/15foot jumper, they just payed to watch him dunk for the next 5years.
As Rockets2K said, the Clippers didn't have to commit to him so early. It's not like he's going to be UFA soon. And even then, their 5yr/$95mil offer will trump any 4yr/$58mil offers that other teams can give Griffin. So they were never in a position where they can lose him. Being good and being overpaid are not mutually exclusive concepts.
Manufactured superstar gets overpaid, surprise surprise. Athleticism will fade and he will be an albatross.
