http://www.iamagm.com/news/2012/07/01/confirmed.blake.griffin.agrees.95.million.extension.clippers As expected, the Los Angeles Clippers have come to terms with Blake Griffin on a long-term contract extension. The Clipper' franchise player will sign a $95 million extension over five-years. Despite the reports that this news was upcoming, Donald Sterling in the mix means all bets are off. And as expected, Griffin agreed to his five-year extension worth up to $95 million and Paul didn’t accept his three-year extension for $60 million, according to sources who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. .... Paul, who will earn $17.7 million next season, is in the last year of his contract. He is waiting to sign an extension after next season, which is a better financial decision, said a source close to the point guard. http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-griffin-paul-20120630,0,6278902.story By Broderick Turner June 30, 2012, 10:10 p.m. As expected, the Clippers offered extensions to All-Stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul on Saturday night when the free-agency period opened. And as expected, Griffin planned to sign his five-year extension worth up to $95 million and Paul didn't accept his three-year extension for $60million, according to people who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter. With Griffin agreeing, the Clippers will have the forward, who'll earn $7.2 million next season, locked up for the next six years. For Paul, who will earn $17.7 million next season in the last year of his contract, waiting to sign an extension after next season was a better financial decision, said a person close to the point guard. Paul, who came to the Clippers in a trade before last season, can sign a five-year, $108-million extension with the team in July 2013. The Clippers also made contact with the representatives of guard Chauncey Billups Saturday night. Billups missed most of last season recovering from a torn left Achilles' tendon, but the Clippers want him back. The Clippers were expected to reach out to free-agent guard Jamal Crawford, who opted out of his contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. The 6-foot-5 Crawford probably will command the mid-level exception. A source close to both Billups and Crawford said there was “interest” and that they would “engage in discussions” with the Clippers. The Clippers also plan on talking with the representatives of Randy Foye and Nick Young. Free agents could agree to deals starting at 9 p.m. PDT Saturday, but they can't sign with a team until the 10-day moratorium period expires on July 11. The Clippers have two exceptions to lure free agents: The mid-level exception for teams like the Clippers that are non-luxury-tax paying teams is a maximum deal of four years starting at $5 million in the first two years and with annual 3% raises thereafter. The biannual exception is for non-tax-paying teams and is for a maximum deal of two years starting at $1.9 million in the first year with a 3% increase in the second year.
Why was Griffin eligible for a 5 year, $95 mil extension when Love and Westbrook were only eligible for 5 years, $80 mil? On top of that, the Wolves only offered Love $60 over 4 years..
i read a tweet that said chris paul is not gonna sign an extension with the clippers and when i read that i was thinking would blake sign an extension or no
overrated wont develop under Vinny He is just a glorified dunker. If his knees go bad, he wont be able to adjust and hit perimeter jumpers like Amare
The new Derrick Rose Rule. You can only use it on 1 player per team. OKC used it on Durant, and I assume Love didn't want it, so he could be a free agent sooner. The Wolves will probably save it for Rubio. Edit- http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ick-rose-rule-will-make-a-few-rookies-richer/ On 2nd thought, not sure if Love qualifies. I don't know how many All NBA teams he's made. I thought he qualified already, but turned it down.
Amare in his prime is much better than Blake. Prime Amare could knock down the Mid-range shot with no problems. Not fair for me to say that though because I don't think Blake is in his prime yet.
He's only 2 years in, and already an automatic 20/10 player. That's max money. His game will develop, and he will deserve that contract, barring injuries.
So the clippers finally drafted a star player and gave him the max... Good move for the clippers with out Blake no body would go play there IMO.
