What's your definition of big...??? Plus Blake's receivers are ball droppers. They were even dropping balls during the pro day.
Well, Blake had his 1st live NFL action today. The Jags top 3 receivers are hurt and Blackmon is out drunk somewhere ---> and Blake still looked like the truth. Just a preseason game though but so far it does not look like the Jags "reached" when they drafted him with the #3 pick.... That kid can sling it.
Looks better than Gabbert, that alone should give them 3 or 4 extra wins. Their Defense is no Joke. This is how I think the division will shape up. Colts, Texans, Jags and last Titans.
Let's be honest. There's been a ton more talk about Bridgewater. We could have realistically had him and Clowney. If you're gonna launch a legitimate complaint before they've played meaningful games, that's your ticket.
I don't care for Bridgewater but we could have gotten Garoppolo. And I don't mind passing on Bortles when a Clowney is available.
What complaint are you talking about...? I posted a lot of information in this thread explaining why I thought Blake is a good QB prospect and I took a lot of heat for it and you even referred to my evaluation of Blake as buffoonery and so far my evaluation is being validate. But like I already said _ just a preseason game and maybe he'll fall on his face... But don't act like you wouldn't be impressed if Clowney looks good in his 1st preseason game. And you're absolutely right there was a ton of talk about Teddy and I said he was not worth a top 1st round pick and took a lot of heat for that as well. And as of now he's also validating my evaluation. Check down, check down _ and one hoppers.
If Clowney busts (and he COULD bust) and Manzel becomes Drew Brees 2.0, the texans will never level this down.
Bortles had a good outing, but reminds me a lot of Big Ben on the field. That being said, I am more pissed that the Patriots stole Garoppolo from us...that really shouldnt have happened.
Looks way better than Gabbert. He had command of the offense, reading the defense pre-snap and changing plays at the line, stands strong in the pocket and doesn't flinch when he's about to get hit and delivering strikes down field in traffic, throws passes through tight windows with zip on the ball _ you can hear the "pop" when it hits the receivers... The kid looks like a franchise quarterback to me. But yea, the big story for the Jags is that defense. They were trying to murder McCown. Gus Bradley added two of his guys from Seattle during the off-season. He's trying to replicate the defense he built in Seattle. Don't be piss'd yet sugrlnd... I like Jimmy but he has a lot of Case Keenum characteristics. Once Blake went off the board _ the Texans and the Titans may have done right by just waiting and drafting Savage and Zach (considering the Texans wanted no part of Johnny).
I'm talking about camp buzz. There's been a ton on Bridgewater. He may beat out fairly average NFL veterans to start in week one. By "fairly average NFL veterans", I mean quarterbacks that are roughly the equivalent to what we have now. You can't say the same for Bortles either way because there's no competition. On top of that, I'd put more into camp buzz right now than one or two preseason quarters (didn't get a chance to watch either). I'm just saying. One guy may beat out qbs who are equivalent to what we have currently. That guy, we could have gotten while still keeping our top pick and most others. The other guy may end up starting by default, and probably will. There's just not enough to merit saying "see I told you so!" or anything even close to that right now. My point is, even if you were grasping as straws (which may be the case here) the more legit "what could have been" at this point, is still Bridgewater and Clowney. This will remain true until, at least, halfway through the season. To be fair, though, there's really no point in evaluating our draft, or griping about what we should have done, until a couple years down the road. We all knew we weren't going to win it all this year.
So you didn't watch and you're going off "camp buzz" Lol... I never said that. You're the one that ran off in this thread trying to do damage control... To be fair Eddie _ where did I say "what we should have done"... You're the only one on this page talking about what quarterback the Texans "should have" drafted. And the way Teddy looked last night _ Texans fans would be out for blood if they would have drafted him...
I don't think there is any way Bridgewater legitimately beats out Matt Cassel unless he REALLY steps up his game from last night. He was just captain checkdown last night and he didn't even look good while doing it
Not trying to do damage control at all. Maybe I am guilty of reading too much into your comments though. Maybe this and the Bridgewater threads should finally be moved out of the Texans forums, though. I think seeing this thread bumped in this section of the boards (not that you had anything to do with that, per se) is what had me jump on it. My point is just that we shouldn't base anything off of a rookie's first preseason snaps. Its pointless. I'd rather base things off practice (yeah, practice). Realistically though, what we're hearing and seeing at this point, for a rookie quarterback, means next to nothing. I did go back and watch the video of each of their plays (Bortles and Bridgewater). Granted it was from one angle. Bortles looked pretty good. They drew up some deep dropbacks and slow developing plays and he foun the open man. His accuracy was just okay. He only threw through one tight-ish window (Bridgewater didn't really throw through any). Bortles showed a strong arm. Teddy seemed to run more short developing plays and only threw one or two intermediate routes. I thought he looked fine though, given it was his first game. He needs to work on touch, though, as a couple short passes were dropped because he threw them too hard. I'm not ready to call him captain check down yet though, although I'd like to see him throw a deep ball.
