As an Asian guy - I have to say we get the sh*t end of the stick. I've run into a lot of Asian women who say they won't even date Asian guys. Not only are we "weak and effeminate", people like Amy Tan would like everyone to think we're all cheap, women-beating SOBs. A lot of Rocket fans on this very board call Yao a vagina. but i rant....

Yes. Both. Everyone has rightfully earned their place for that matter - it's more of a question of perception and getting rid of the stigma of accepting handouts. IT will infact empower minorities more - since no one can question that they are their purely on merit.

i didn't realize i was coming off as angry. i'm more frustrated that i have to explicate every little point so that nothing is misconstrued and so i don't come off as some sort of racist pig because i am stating what i see and what i have studied.

and i'm not trying to toot my own horn but you state my limited experience and how i don't understand (which is the biggest cop out argument in the world), but its not like i have lived my life isolated by middle-upper class, heterosexual, christian, repressed white people. you don't have to go thru every experience in the world to understand everything about how everyone feels. there are universal emotions and experiences.

i do understand a lot of how people feel but i get too tired of having to explain how i do understand since it drags me into other tangents where i have to explain how i understand and why i understand and it just turns into some sort of college paper. i've spent my life going outside of myself and learning about others and why they feel the way they do, so its not like i am just standing here from my soapbox proclaiming how i feel with no basis.

finally, i do have compassion for people and their suffering but a lot of people go through a lot of suffering and judgement based on how they look. that's how people are, but there are lot of people who do experience worse than being judged by their skin color. and initial judgements change pretty quickly after people begin to talk.
