The PS3 is still better on paper, but value wise the proof is lacking. I had the same thoughts on the price, but MS is in a better position to cut prices than Sony. They aren't losing 100 bucks per box. The modular harddrives are probably pure profit for them. Even internal sata drives can be found cheap. Fools who rush in for the Elite model are likely to get their money's worth with the HDMI connection. This is probably why MS is doing this: to put a fresh look on a mistake while making some money back from the losses they took at launch. I think Nintendo proved that there are different groups to exploit. Maybe the "next generation" will have different tiers for consoles. One as a general home theater in a box, another games only, and the last one an internet/retro console. The expensive model does everything listed while cheaper models scale down. If different companies make the cheaper models, the differences in graphics becomes clearer. Graphics cards can now be stacked, so it'd be the same principle as buying three gfx cards for the best model instead of two. I used to think that production costs for games would skyrocket to the point where companies would consolidate even further (EA as the next Walmart, Activision as Best Buy...). They still can. Games became more expensive this generation, but there's game developers who are making good money from handhelds, cell phones, and solitare-like flash games on the computer. In the best case, it would end the craze of assuming the best graphics is the only way to create value or money. Maybe these programmers can spend more time on design, gameplay, and depth.
Okay, I see the Xbox 360 wireless adapter that Microsoft makes. But they charge a whopping $100 for it. That's twice what my wirless router actually cost. Are there any other generic adapters made out there that might be cheaper? I mean, I don't see any reason why it would need to be a Microsoft product designed for the XBox 360, as far as the system is concerned all it will see is a connection through the ethernet port, right?
Knowing MS...they will probably come out with a Blu Ray add-on player that only works with their HDMI port. You Bastards!
The MS one makes connection a breeze. It is powered by the USB port on the back. I haven't seen anyone using a 3rd party adapter. It is ridiculously overpriced, but I got a used one at EB for like 60 bucks so it was worth it.
That is what I am saying. MS is sending the message that a console in 2007 without a HD-DVD player and without a wireless adapter is worth $479. If that is the case, then isn't a PS3 with a Blu-Ray player and wireless adapter built-in priced at $600 a bargain?
Guys, there is no such thing as a "Game Adapter". They just slap a label on a wireless network bridge. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_g...=wireless+ethernet+bridge&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go THe really cheap one works fine but it only supports WEP encryption.
