You know we're on the same team, but I do think that's sexist by definition. It's a hard habit to break, but I think it would be better if we all moved away from both race and gender based insults. There are so many non-gender based slurs to choose from and any number of them works for Hillary. (Try ******* or crazy *******, for example.) Nothing about what's wrong with her has anything to do with her gender.
seriously batman, i know what you're saying and i agree, my wife and i have been discussing this a lot lately. however, and i'm being serious, ******* just doesn't work for me, and b**** seems more civil than cockblocker. help me out here, what should she be called. i'm so open to suggestion, maybe we should have a thread on it.
I don't really have a suggestion, thegary. About four years ago I had a female housemate who is really otherwise uninterested in such PC-isms but was bothered by these sorts of words. I agreed with her in principle but had a hard time replacing it ("that's so r****ded" and "that's so gay" are similarly hard to replace). But it stuck with me and eventually it just went out of my vernacular. That became easy for me during this primary cycle because I've wanted to vote for a woman for president for so long and was so depressed that the first serious female candidate we got turned out to be such a dishonest jerk (I know, it doesn't have the same ring) that I was never inclined to use any word to describe her that had anything to do with her gender -- in fact, her strength and success relative to other women historically, is what I like best about her. I won't complain if you continue to use it. I don't think society's anywhere near done with the word. But if the question is, "Is it sexist?" I'd say yes, it is by definition.
again batman, i can't disagree, i'm guilty as charged. but the thing is, i don't believe i've called her that on this site or anywhere besides to close friends. i called her, and our friend basso, cockblockers. i just copped to the "b****calling" to get a rise out of the guy who derailed the thread by starting in on michele.

You're not guilty with me because I didn't charge you with anything. And I think people probably call Hillary a b**** more than they call her anything else. I was just responding to your statement "if that's sexist" because the issue's been on my mind lately. Especially today, when Hillary said the campaign had been marred by sexism and yesterday when Ferraro called Obama sexist. Of course both charges are utterly bogus. I would love it if they (or any Clinton supporter) would cite even one example of same. Meanwhile, though I'm not accusing you of anything, if you think the word ought to be avoided I can't imagine why you'd distinguish between using it publicly and privately. If it's an unacceptable slur, I'd think that would be true wherever it might be used.

Feel free to use some of mine. My epithets are neither sexist nor smutty (I don't condone foul language), but they do define the ultimate Hillary.
While I disagree with his politics and probably won't vote for him, I think that article is pretty neat and I don't have one negative thing to say about what he did.
not sure i carry around a lot of remorse regarding the usage of the word. back when i was in grad school, political correctness was running rampant- it seems that academia has chilled out a little in that regard. not saying it's right but as i said, i discuss it with my wife, and yes, i've called her that. not cool, i know, but i'll tell you what, whether in public or private i am pretty much the same, very imperfect person. that is, i am both a royal ******* and politically incorrect yet somehow care about the welfare of everyone around me. i truly want everyone to do well. obama is running a unique and historic campaign and hillary is standing in the way of his nomination for reasons that i would personally never be able to summon. she may not use the same ugly words but she is an ugly human being.
your arguement seems to boil down to Hillary is an ugly person because she doesn't realize Obama is the messiah, and she has the audacity to hope she could be president. it's an interesting take.
