Good luck finding a video game system under $20 that will entertain you.

It isn't relevant, but still stupid.

But they should trivialize the claims. Because if someone makes purchases other people deem poor choices for their budget, then they deserve whatever happens to them.

Haven't been to Barney's in years.

Bloomingdales is the gold standard for high-end retail.

Sadly profiling occurs in every facet of life.

    1. Eastern Asian cant drive
    2. South Asian's smell like curry
    3. White's love hunting
    4. Blacks love chicken
    5. Latinos landscape

We all profile to some extent, but every profiling often has some merit. If you appear to be a poorly dressed young male walking into an expensive designer store, you are profiled from the moment you walk in. But if that same male was a well dressed individual with a clean cut walked in, he would be treated totally different. There is nothing racial in profiling. However, I believe that it becomes racial when its repeated acts of profiling against one individual race. If this same Barney's store targeted other black males in the same way, the managers should lose their jobs and be publicly chastised.

I do wish that as we grow up, we teach our kids about looking past the color of skin and treat people as they are on an individual basis. But if that hasn't changed over millions of years, its not changing over the next million...

    1. Eastern Asian cant drive = Often true
    2. South Asian's smell like curry = Sometimes true
    3. White's love hunting = 99% of hunters I see are white.
    4. Blacks love chicken = Meh who doesn't
    5. Latinos landscape = Uhh true...

Further... white folks with money buy organic.... poor white folks love Mountain Dew..... and white folks eat mass quantities of Mayonaise.

I heard something on the radio this morning about a recent poll that indicated that 37% of people don't expect to retire. At all. They literally expect to have to work until they die.

I wonder how many people spend money on things like this yet don't even contribute to a 401k/403b, etc.

I don't see how it is stupid, the guy is 19. You're saying you have never made a bad purchase ever in your life? Do we know if all his financial responsibilities in college are paid?

There is really nothing wrong with profiling. You are right every race is profiled and sometimes you benefit from it. As a black guy, you'll get picked up at pick up games. It's harmless in that way.

But when it leads to someone getting arrested then it's not good of course.

This is a frequent argument brought up by those who espouse the idea that Asians are the model minority so there is nothing inherently negative with that stereotype. The problem though is that when it comes to stereotyping that is frequently seen as a zero sum game so the idea that one group might be particularly good at something almost reflexively means that they are bad at something. The stereotype for a long time was that Asians being smart meant they were bad at sports. Also as many Asians complain about regarding racial preferences in academia in that case the stereotype works against them.
But this is an inevitable result of profiling that innocent people will end up getting caught up in law enforcement since the primary determinant of suspicion is race / ethnicity. Another problem with using profiling in law enforcement is that it creates a blind spot in vigilance. There is a reason why Al Qaeda has been determined to recruit non-Arab Jihadists because they know that is one of the best ways to evade security measures that are focused on profiling Arab individuals.

Macy's Also Gets Slapped With Racial Discrimination Lawsuit By Black Shopper

Barneys isn't the only store being accused of racial discrimination. Now, Macy's has been slapped with a lawsuit implicating the luxury store of racial profiling.

The New York Post reports that actor Robert Brown, who's most known for his starring role opposite Sean Connery in the film “Finding Forrester," has filled a civil suit for an unspecified sum against the luxury retail store and the New York Police Department, citing that he was unlawfully searched by undercover police officers on June 8, 2013.

The 29 year old, who is black, was stopped after making a purchase at the Sunglass Hut store located inside Macy's flagship location in New York's Herald Square.

According to the Manhattan Supreme Court suit, Brown presented his ID to the cops but “was told that his identification was false and that he could not afford to make such an expensive purchase." The Brooklyn resident says he was then arrested and detained by cops for over an hour before finally being released without any charges.

This isn't the first time Macy's has dealt with a racial discrimination lawsuit. In 2005, the company paid New York state $600,000 to settle a complaint that its New York department stores were racially profiling shoppers and unlawful handcuffing them while they were being detained on suspicion of shoplifting.

Calls to Macy's from The Huffington Post were not immediately returned.

Brown's incident at Macy's is almost parallel to that of 19-year-old college student Trayon Christian and 21-year-old nursing student Kayla Phillips, who have both filed suits against Barneys and the NYPD this week.

“It’s an epidemic. It’s unbelievable,” Nicholas Elefterakis, Brown's attorney, told The Post.

Barneys' chief executive Mark Lee released a statement on Thursday that said the company offers its "sincere regret and deepest apologies" and that it is "conducting a thorough review of our practices and procedures as they relate to these matters to ensure that they reflect our continued commitment to fairness and equality."

Rapper Jay Z, who is set to launch a holiday collection with Barneys, is being urged via a Change.org petition to step away from the project. When asked about the matter on Friday, the Grammy Award winner wouldn't comment.
