Every time there is a break in reported by neighbors they are asked to

But calling something terrible and a joke, isn't really much of well laid out defense of your position.

FB gets it. Racism is all about power relations. What's interesting about this thread (and other "race" threads started by the usual suspects) is how some attempt to steer the debate away from that context and how some who should know better take the bait. This is actually basso's entire strategy for starting threads: post an article about some incident/event with little, if any, comment; insist that any discussion of larger issues be framed within the context of that incident instead of the other way around; and pawn off on others the responsibility of contributing his part of the discussion so that he can accuse them of putting words in his mouth.

This is just ignorance in its highest form. You are clearly a racist if you believe even half of the dribble you just typed. That was the whole point of what I wrote and you confirmed it. So just to be clear, when whites are attacked because of race it doesn't matter: when a black person is involved, regardless of whether anything racist actually happenned it is okay to play the race card. That is the definition of racist thinking.

I don't know what kind of bars you frequent but while I've seen a lot of guys hitting on girls I've never seen a guy hitting a girl.

I think this is a story thread worthy for a variety of issues, guy hitting a woman, guy happens to be a 50 something Columbia professor, guy is black and woman is white. That definately seems unusual and worthy of discussion but I agree that there isn't much to debate.

It was bad stupid and racist on the part of the guy.

Of course though it does remind people not to mess with architects!

 

You can't just sever the concept of "racism" from its social and historical contexts. Would you say a black slave punching a white plantation owner is racist?

 

It's a story because it isn't some low life punk hitting a woman to steal her purse, or because he was drunk, etc. It's a story about a 50 year old professor hitting a woman because he had a heated conversation about race. He was black and she was white. It's a story because of reactionary thought process.

Many people who hate the race issue being played all the time were somewhere between irritated and infuriated about the national attention, including a presidential admonishment, given to a story about a white cop arresting a belligerent black man who was reported to be breaking into a home. The thought process is "so, when a black professor gets treated "unfairly" it's worthy of national news and it deserves a presidential wrist slapping, but when a black professor punches a woman in the face over race it's "aw shucks, no big deal."

You can say that thinking is stupid, but it's reality. That is the result of playing the race card all the time. The other side gets annoyed and throws stories like this back at you.

 

You can't be serious, can you? Have you ever had a party at your house? Have the cops ever been to your house for any reason? This is standard procedure, especially when it is a reported break in. How easy would it be if every burglar just said this is my house and the cops said okay and left? Would they ever be able to arrest or stop any of them with your view of procedure? Also, when reporting to a call, police are given probable cause. It gives the cops a chance to run ID's for outstanding warrants. This is why they do it most the time, even when they know you have done nothing wrong at the present time. It is standard procedure.
