I believe he said on similar grounds, not something completely different. Also, how does one physically resist an officer before first verbally refusing his request? They have to cross a line before it gets to the physical part(arrest). At a party It is usually someone drunk mouthing off. Is this not what Gates was doing, mouthing off and causing a scene? Was he disrupting the peace? I would say so, yelling and screaming in his yard at night, causing neighbors to come out and watch. The only thing he wasn't doing was having a party, but breaking into a house and it being reported would go beyond a party. He could have just showed his ID like a normal person and there is never a story to report.

well according to FranchiseBlade, the black professor punching the white woman over an argument about race is not a big deal, nor is it racism that we should care about.

its not a big deal, its an isolated stupid incident. the gates topic became about racial profiling an on going topic.

you tell me what, the next time a black professor punches a white woman over race, we'll discuss seriously

so WHAT?, its a stupid bar argument, if they were arguing about abortion it wouldn't be a thread topic, if they were arguing about IRAQ it wouldn't be, if they were arguing about RELIGION, it wouldn't be, because this is an issue between two people. that's the point. its an incident at a bar

Do you even believe the stuff you are typing? There was no racism? The professor was pissed at whites, got in a racially motivated argument over whites and punched a white woman? Can there be a more cleary defined case of racism? Even the professor does not deny it.

    So What?

It's about race, which is what I said. Some posters said this was not about race, when it clearly was.

And btw, if a white guy would have sucker punched a black woman in Harlem, there certainly would be a thread in here. Don't kid yourself.

You could say the exact same thing about the Gates episode. If the cop had arrested a white professor, nobody would care. If it would have been a preacher, an abortion doctor, or a soldier again nobody would care. You could say that about any race debate and it would be true. You only bring it up when the debate doesn't fit your agenda. You are one of the main ones to cry racism on almost any topic, odd that when it is a black person you see racism as no big deal and unworthy of discussion, when you try to inject the race card in almost every subject.

You forgot the racists who love and promote racism. They still exist and they will have reactions to race-related issues.

Guy in the bar sounds like a jerk but what do you expect - he teaches at Columbia. That is one of the most evil, dirty, backstabbing institutions we have. People at the IFA/NYU think that Columbia students and professors are bad...and that is a baaaaad sign.

Well, I knew one cool guy that was in the Columbia architecture program. Who would think that a guy who went to Harvard and Columbia would be a womanizing, carefree kinda guy? Exactly! And that is racist.

I'm gonna tell "The Black Cloud" to go visit some people in this thread.

Okay, I looked in the mirror, and I don't have a problem with myself, still.

None of the pro-thread-topic folx have articulated, in any way, what there is to discuss. We have no idea what the bar argument really dealt with. Was it a fascinating and nuanced discussion of slavery? White guilt? Ethnic foods? The N word? Sammy "the ghost" Sosa? Any knowledge of that could possibly give something to discuss... maybe. But likely this boils down to drunk guy punches drunk woman, which we all condemn as stupid and reprehensible, just like we would a white man punching a black woman.

Ergo, there is nothing to discuss, unless someone is pro-violence. One person punches another and allegedly they were arguing "about race." They just as well could have argued about the Red Sox, the price of oil, or whole grain bread. Without any knowledge of the conversation, the confrontation or the relation of these two people, there's nothing to discuss.

So we're still waiting to know the point. If someone can tell me what the OP and friends hoped to "discuss" or "debate" here, I'm all ears. We don't know how to interpret the roll-eyes, that amazing starting point for the thread, unless it was self-directed.

Like someone else said, you didn't say a damn thing. You posted an article with a useless smiley face attached.

You are about as useful as a racist RSS feed. Which is to say, not very useful.
