Franks, however, was in no way in charge of these forces. When he was in Somalia, he was in charge of UNITAF, the UN task force, but was not there at the time. He also had some really scathing things to say about the operation as a whole. Here are the questions leading up to the quote I previously printed. Tell me if it seems to you like he's trying to 'cover up':

Yeah, that's pretty convincing... "When I WAS IN CHARGE, we had great intel and the situation was totally in control. When I left, the situation got totally screwed up. But oh one more thing, it wasn't the military's fault, cause we didn't want to do any of that stuff." That's a really good rebuttal. He removes any blame from the military. "No way we could've been suckered." Remember, even before you posted this I said it was much better for the military and intelligence communities to say "They got lucky" rather than "we got taken." What did Franks say? "Aidid got lucky."

BTW: His intel assessment (when you take out his own self serving assessment of intel while HE was in charge) goes right along with what I've been saying. The normal technical intel was good as usual. The human intel was crap.

AND, his recount of Aidid's preparations (We knew when they were coming - we always watched the spec ops guys) (we put RPGs for the choppers on the roofs during meetings) goes right along with what I'm saying. AND if they had fed our Somali intel assets bad intel, do you think he would reveal that to Franks?

Then take into account the CIA senior man, who clearly believed they were fed the info to sucker them into an ambush, and its lights out. Add the fact the CIA station chief's #2 was fed info that led him to be ambushed shortly before that, and add that to the testimony from Franks quoting Aidid talking about ambushing the troops they were watching at the airport...you're in denial if you don't at least think its 50/50 that the intel was bad.
