Black Harvard Professor arrested after breaking into his own home?

What's amusing to me is the neighbors didn't even recognize him. You figure you would know what the people around you look like, even if you don't really know them.

 

I believe it has been mentioned in this thread that it is a shame that the neighbors do not know each other that well.

 

this is the biggest point to me. he's the commander in chief, the respect he shows to the military should be extended to the police force at all times, at least in the sense of giving them the benefit fo the doubt. don't refer to them doing something you admit you don't have the facts on as "stupidly". it was fairly apparent his emotions got the best of him.

 

Obama's mental lapse last night will have very serious repurcussions.

I can't believe that question was even asked at a press conference. Who gives a flip that some harvard prof was arrested. Not sure why Obama didn't sidestep it. The "news" media being what it has become (which is not liberal but lazy and as shallow as a third grader's summer vacation essay), they would obviously lead with stories including the word "stupidly" as opposed to dealing with the bulk of the complicated health care issue. So sad and pathetic.

How can I slap? By "view" I mean clicking on a thread and reading any of the contents (hence recorded as a "view" on the BBS.) I haven't done it since I said I wouldn't do it anymore.

But I have not found a way to avoid seeing the proliferation of titles with his/its authorship.

I hear you, but it had become a little like a bad SNL skit in terms of repetition. Using that analogy, even if you kind of hate the show, you reward it when you watch.

I admit, I just can't know for sure what I'm missing there.

 

The very serious repurcussions I was Hoping for would be a polarizing commentary from our leader, who in the past would not speak on such a small news story, causing us as Americans to hold our law enforcement accountable for their escalation of incidents where minorities are involved. I would like my sons not have to have to choose between assistance from the law and their health and well being.

 

The president and the professor are former colleagues and still good friends. Again, it is exciting to have someone in his position not sidestep a question that You may not find important but a lot of Americans are concerned about.

 

Are most Americans more concerned with the teetering economics of healthcare in the nation or the WEB Dubois professor of whatever at Harvard and his losing his keys and getting in an argument with Cambridge, MA, cops?

Yes, race is important and very "exciting" when you have a non-white president, I guess. And it's popcorn-worthy that the president won't sidestep such a question when his friend is involved. But my point was one of relative import.

At some point, if we don't want to become another obscure has-been empire, we have to turn away from the sexy topic dujour, from Michael Jackson and nude sports anchors to missing children and arrested professors, and towards the hard topics and questions that require more than 2 minutes of attention.

At this point, I don't like our odds, but I'm not going to give up on us either.
