i didn't say there was proof, but would you agree that he had prepped an answer, and at least discussed "how to address it?" watch the video on youtube- he's not surprised by the question, which was completely OT.

To be quite honest, if Crowley's wrong, then he should more than just apologize. It's one thing for a regular person to feigning ignorance or screaming like an idiot, but totally different for a police to not act professionally. Hence why I felt Gates should really hammer down the point through if he truly is on the right side.

I mean, think about what's the sentiment around American regarding the matter? Majority are on the side of the police, thinking Gates was crying wolf. And if they just kiss and make up, this sentiment will continue. IMO, a step back in terms of race relations regarding the police.

    Basso -

    You are an idiot.

For attributing false bias to posters in this thread due to a misinformed need to rush to judgment

For attributing Obama's push for more money towards police officers to a current topic even though he pushed that before this incident

For so many reasons in this thread alone.

Go back to your herd, sheep. I'm sure they will give you a link to an article that you can post in your defense. You are a joke.

i think it's because his wife is an obama supporter. he can't not picture our messiah's face while with his wife.

it'd drive me to lunacy as well, i suppose.

I was watching the Obama press conference video and he starts talking about how blacks and Latinos get profiiled, etc.

I suppose he is insinuating that whites are racist. I was wondering what the hell happened to Indians and Asians?

Are white people "okay" with them? In fact, if we go purely by incarceration, arrest rates, etc - it would seem that white cops actually give preferential treatment to Indians and Asians over themselves.

It seems to me that the pure racism argument is bogus. While it does exists, I think the fact that Indians and Asians have better "percentages" than whites should not be glossed over or ignored.

I think some study of incarceration or arrest rates correlated by income level might reveal some surprising conclusions.

A cop just got suspended for calling Gates, "a banana-eating jungle monkey" and other racist terms.

It may not be safe for work, but I didn't find it really that bad. Here is the link from Fox Boston with the email text.

whawtever. still the same point. i suppose cops are giving preferential treatment to Indians and Asians then. It doesn't make sense but it is happening. I'm just saying that should be noted also.

What exactly is your point? Indians and Asians make up less than 5% of the U.S. population, total. Blacks make up about 14% of the U.S. population. Asians are usually stereotyped as quiet, subservient, smart nerds. Blacks are usually stereotyped as aggressive, dangerous, loud-mouthed criminals. I'm sure these play a large role in how each is treated by the police.

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/07/30/gates.police.apology/index.html

(CNN) -- A Boston police officer who sent a mass e-mail referring to Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as a "banana-eating jungle monkey" has apologized, saying he's not a racist.
Boston police officer Justin Barrett apologizes for the e-mail he sent about the Harvard professor.

Boston police officer Justin Barrett apologizes for the e-mail he sent about the Harvard professor.

Officer Justin Barrett told a Boston television station on Wednesday night that he was sorry for the e-mail.

"I regret that I used such words," Barrett told CNN affiliate WCVB-TV. "I have so many friends of every type of culture and race you can name. I am not a racist."

Barrett was placed on administrative leave after the e-mail surfaced, and he might lose his job as a result.

Barrett, 36, who is also an active member of the National Guard, sent off a fiery e-mail to some fellow Guard members -- as well as The Boston Globe -- in which he vented about a July 22 Globe column about Gates' controversial arrest.

Gates, a top African-American scholar, was arrested on July 16 and accused of disorderly conduct after police responded to a report of a possible burglary at his Cambridge home. The charge later was dropped. The incident sparked a debate about racial profiling and police procedures.

Globe columnist Yvonne Abraham supported Gates' actions, asking readers, "Would you stand for this kind of treatment, in your own home, by a police officer who by now clearly has no right to be there?"

In Barrett's e-mail, which was posted on a Boston television station's Web site, he declared that if he had "been the officer he verbally assaulted like a banana-eating jungle monkey, I would have sprayed him in the face with OC (oleoresin capsicum, or pepper spray) deserving of his belligerent non-compliance."

Barrett used the "jungle monkey" phrase four times, three times referring to Gates and once referring to Abraham's writing as "jungle monkey gibberish."

He also declared that he was "not a racist but I am prejudice [sic] towards people who are stupid and pretend to stand up and preach for something they say is freedom but it is merely attention because you do not get enough of it in your little fear-dwelling circle of on-the-bandwagon followers."

Barrett's comments were taken out of context, said his attorney, Peter Marano.

"Officer Barrett did not call professor Gates a jungle monkey or malign him racially," Marano said. "He said his behavior was like that of one. It was a characterization of the actions of that man."

According to a statement from Boston police, Commissioner Edward Davis took action immediately on learning of Barrett's remarks, stripping the officer of his gun and badge.

Barrett is "on administrative leave, pending the outcome of a termination hearing."

CNN has been unable to reach Barrett for comment.

Davis wants Barrett, a two-year member of the Boston police, fired, a source close to the investigation said. But he will continue to be paid while on leave, and no date has been set for his termination hearing.

    Wow.

Please do not follow in the footsteps of T_J. I enjoy having more conservative posters in this forum, but he is not the guy to be a fan of. You would be much better off reading Refman/Weslinder posts.

    LOL @ the suspended cop.

How can "banana-eating jungle monkey" be taken out of context?

Maybe he was talking about an albino monkey?  ;)

Agreed, I would so love to get some more thinking conservatives (to add to your list, MadMax, giddyup most of the time, and even ROXRAN on issues other than guns ;) ) here. The idiot triplets just don't seem to have any intellectual curiosity.

This guy should be fired for pure stupidity as much as his blatant racism. Are there really cops on the Boston police force so dumb that in the middle of a high profile racial controversey, they send out a mass email with that kind of language in it? And include the Boston Globe!!!??!!
