I didn't realize you were a trained psychiatrist or psychologist able to determine the way a life time of prejudice, mistaken allegations, jet lag, fatigue etc. play on someone.

I have no problem believing Gates acted like a jack ass. From the information I have, he probably did. That doesn't mean that he is a hateful person, who hates white cops or anything else. Everybody has bad days and does stupid stuff from time to time.

Whatever his motivation was, it wasn't akin to a mother losing her baby. That's just a ridiculous argument to make.

Fact is, he is not above the law. The officer would have arrested a white man in that situation too. You can't behave like that to the police in public. You simply can not do that.

Here's a good example of what I am talking about. This guy is in public giving this officer loads of crap, slinging names at the officer, being disrespectful, etc. Yet, this officer, lets the man go. Hmmm.....

He should have been arrested...but I don't trust this video as authentic - how on earth did they capture the sound from the police cruiser? I thought it was video only.

 

I suppose so, I don't think you can act that way to an officer - they are in a very sensitive position where they put their lives on the line. When someone becomes belligrent, for their own safety and for the safety of those around them, including the public, they have a right to arrest someone to remove them from that situation.

It doesn't mean they will be charged for a crime, or put in jail, but removing someone from that situation is a smart thing to do.

They have a job to do. I think the police showed a lot of patience towards Gates and he kept going even after the police left the hosue - that's why he got arrested.
