Good to know that you have the entire story. I guess you were there. You were there, right?

He was arrested for disorderly conduct. A friend of mine was yelled at by a traffic cop. As the traffic cop walked away, my buddy said "f*** you." The cop heard him, and shortly thereafter, my buddy was in the back of the cop car in cuffs.

Whatever Gates may or may not have said did not require that Crowley just hang around and wait. Gates could have said it as the officers were going back to their car. If Gates acted like a fool and said some incendiary things, then he should have been given a time out. These officers are NOT his verbal punching bag.

    what a joke

bottom line is that you, much like our community agitator president, were not there when it happened so your opinion is pretty worthless.

I think you are going a little overboard with elderly. He is 58, 2 years younger than Deke. I mean come on, elderly? He is 4 years younger than OJ simpson.

    1. Black cops have a saying .. . They are BLUE before they are black
[I wonder if other cops say the same about there race. . . never heard it]
    2. It is not about the color of the cop . . .it is about the way POLICE VIEW BLACK PEOPLE . . not white cops. . not black cops .. not asian cops . . not hispanic cops. . . it is about COPS VIEWING BLACK FOLX

It is the subtle teachings of their occupational culture or some such

Black Cops can and have been as big and sometimes bigger A-holes . . .
If I were not Black . . .They would have reacted differently too

Same thing with Rich and Poor
If some dude is drive a bucket . . . Cops will bulldog his rights
If someone is driving a Lexus and looks like he has a lawyer on retainer. . the cowards will be alot more civil.

But the cops leaving and ignoring GAtes would have been a time out as well. I don't see that arresting Gates helped anything, and only caused more problems.

This happens more often than you would think. Like the lawyer that gives a poorly timed F you that the cop heard. He got arrested.

The only reason that this became news is because the President chose to make a public statement about it.

for the record, I don't think your friend should have ended up in cuffs either. The President was asked about it, and his answer certainly heightened the amount of discussion. But it was already being discussed prior to that.

I'm not familiar with whatever Gates did in West Virginia. Your insults are simply a sign that you have lost the argument. Sorry, brah. Another lost argument for you.

Obama screwed this up by escalating it for no reason -- I bet though he will figure out a way to turn it into a positive.

Hey, fellas let's grab a beer and talk it out

How come Republicans NEVER support the minorities in situations such as these?

I suppose you can also say how come Democrats ALWAYS side with the minorities in situations like this?

Being a minority does not mean that you are always right. If that was the case - then I am right and you are (assuming you are white) wrong. And if that is the case - I can pull out a race card.

We don't know what the exchange was between Gates and Crowley. You can't say that Gates was just tired or went beyond what was acceptable. All you have is Gates' lawyers description which we already know to have inaccuracies in it.

But I don't think you can get away with being abusive to a cop. In or out of your home. The cop was there to investigate a potential crime, if Gates threatned him with violence, Gates has every right to arrest him no matter what.

It's not always about helping a situation. A cop can let someone who is disturbing the neighborhood go because it might not help the "situation" to arrest him.

If Gates said something that was over the line, such as making a threat of violence, then Crowley had a DUTY to arrest him.

You are talking about the "rights" of the cop. Sure, the cop has the authority to arrest him. That doesn't mean he exercised good judgment in doing so. Strictly speaking, cops have the "right" to do a lot of terrible things to citizens.

Fine, I'll change it for you:

If Gates threatened or heavily was abused to Crowley, it was not Crowley's "right" to arrest him - it was his duty.

    happy?

in the police report, Crowley himself mentions that Gates said "I'm a black man in America", "Do you know who I am", and was asking for his name and badge number. If there was anything else worse than that I'm pretty sure Crowley would have included it in his police report.

There's nothing in the police report that says gates said anything close to abusive or threatening to the cop. I'm pretty sure any cop with his or her training can pretty much handle "I'm a black man in America", "Do you know who I am", and was asking for his name and badge number.
