I think the officer may have took advantage of Gates irrationality and sensitivity

He did not give it on purpose which made Gates even more frustrated that he started yelling at the officer to give his badge number

Then the officer went outside hoping that Gates would come out yelling

I also want to add that I think the officer could have done it to anyone in the same situation regardless of their skin color.

 

Give it a rest already. Obama said this about the cop :

"outstanding police officer and a good man, and that was confirmed in the phone conversation. And I told him that."

If he's going to backtrack and apologize, then maybe you should just let it go too.

Gates was being a belligerent a-hole and got arrested. Belligerent a-holes of every race can get arrested (try it sometime - but I suppose I can't prove this if you're white or Asian). Maybe he was tired or whatever. He made a mistake, no charges were dropped so lesson learned. Next time just treat the cop with some respect. This is not some sort of great revelation about racial profiling and human nature. Just some guy (who probably is a good guy) who was in a bad mood and made a mistake.

 

No, he might have used different insults after being tired from a long trip, and having proved that he was in his own home.

Regardless of what insults were used, the outcome would have been different. And people wouldn't be calling Henry Kissinger a prick like they are this guy.

Even if he did, it would've sounded croaky, monotonous and slow-paced. And he and the cop would have argued for another five to seven years, with thousands more dead in Southeast Asia.

In retrospect, though Gates was perhaps being obdurate, Officer Crowley clearly whitewashed the level of police aggression in his official report.
