I defended the cop in the grandmother taser incident (I felt she was being a danger to herself, the cop, and the public).

Racism in this case? I don't care. Maybe, but who knows?

Stupidity? Absolutely. (On both sides though.)

Once the cop recognized that Gates was the resident, he should have left. He was stupid for remaining. Why he stayed, I don't know. Racism is the easy, obvious explanation, but it was possible the cop was merely having a bad day and racism had nothing to do with it. (Stale doughnuts happen.)

Disorderly conduct in your own home is the kicker for me. If Gates assaulted/battered the cop, sure throw him in jail. Not some BS charge just to put the guy in his 'place'. He was in his own home!

Obama just interrupted Gibbs' daily press conference, said he'd called the officer personally, and that they planned to share a beer to discuss the matter (along with Gates).

    Paraphrasing, according to Obama:

The officer asked if Obama could do anything about the reporters on his lawn.
Obama: I can't do anything about them on my lawn.
Officer, per Obama: Your lawn's bigger.

    Feeding frenzy calmed; Obama's good.

    Talking Points Memo write-up:

[rquoter]Obama on Gates Incident: 'My Hope Is This Ends Up Being A Teachable Moment'
    By Rachel Slajda - July 24, 2009, 2:53PM

President Obama just made a surprise appearance at the daily White House press briefing, taking over the podium from Press Secretary Robert Gibbs to make a few comments about the hullabaloo over the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.

"These are two decent people," Obama said. He said he spoke by phone with Sgt. James Crowley, the arresting officer, which he said confirmed his idea of Crowley as a good, decent police officer.

But, he said, African-Americans are sensitive to racial issues. "Even when you have a police officer that has a fine track record on racial sensitivity," he said, the interaction was "fraught with misunderstanding."

"My hope is this ends up being a teachable moment," Obama said.

As for those who criticized the president for getting involved:

[rquoter]There are some who say as president I shouldn't have stepped into this at all, (which) I disagree with. The fact that this has become such big issue is indicative of fact that race is still a troubling aspect of our society.[/rquoter]

"Whether I were black or white, I think me commenting on this and hopefully contributing to constructive, not negative, (discussion) ... is part of my portfolio," Obama said.

As for the teachable moment, he said we need to spend "a little more time listening to each other, and focus on how we can generally improve relationships between police officers and minority communities."

He also said Crowley suggested that he, the president and Gates meet over a beer in the White House. Obama said it hasn't been scheduled, but seemed open to the idea.

Crowley apparently asked Obama how to get reporters off his lawn.

"I informed him I can't get the press off my lawn. He pointed out my lawn is bigger than his lawn," he said, to laughter from the press corps. "Sgt. Crowley would be happy for you to stop trampling his grass."

Obama also joked that no one's been paying much attention to health care because of this story. [/rquoter]

This same racist Sgt Crowley performed CPR on a dying Reggie Lewis 16 years ago, voted for the Messiah.....it makes you go hmmmm!!!

If I was a decent attorney, I'd represent Sgt Crowley in a hearbeat. I would sue"Loudmouth" Gates for defamation of characters and demand an apology from the "Annointed One" for calling my actions stupid.

BTW, you lefties on this board, your Messiah is showing his true color minute by minute, it takes a little while but finally Americans are realizing this Messiah is leading her people into bondage.

Can't wait 'till the day I'm free again, free at last!!!!!!!

Obama and Deval Patrick are the ones who acted completely stupidly in this whole matter. They took the easy way out and pulled the race card without even having any facts. You'd expect the president to be above that, but I guess not. I thought Obama was elected because he was a master communicator? Instead he insults special olympians and calls out the police without facts.

We have a racist president, as Americans we most learn to live with it. He only sees race, not people. His Supreme Court nominee is a great example of this. Even though she is actually qualified for the position, the ONLY reason she got the nomination is because she is a Latina woman.

    It will only get worse...........

He would lose. The arrest does not have any merit.

I am intrigued by your theories on race relations, and wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

Is it irresponsible to speculate about the coming race war, or irresponsible not to?

Obama didn't pull the race card. Please provide the link where he said the stupidity was because of race.

I guess ask Obama about any coming race war, he'll say he hopes to take care of the health care issue before then. Who would want a race war without health care?????

As for the news letter, none yet. I heard Rev. Wright has one that you might like.........
