    Wow, that proves nothing. haha.

But yes, a man in shock of being arrested in his own house means soo much. Good work Inspector Gadget.

I'd like to see you get harassed at your house and see how you react..

Why do you keep harping on this subject? If it was a poor white man, he would have been charged. He wasn't arrested for committing a crime, he was arrested for disorderly conduct. The intentions are not to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law, contrary to minority popular opinion, but to defuse the situation.

And anyone defending Gates; If you accuse someone of racist with no reason, that makes you the bigot.

This would never happen, because I treat police officers with respect and dignity, unlike Gates, who treats them with scorn and a racial chip on his shoulder.

Haha, put yourself in that situation, have your personal liberty infringed upon then I'll gladly give your arguement weight. Until then, I'll pretend with you that you wouldn't be outraged.

Haha thank God for that one! If I marry my girlfriend I might be able to survive her mother. haha.

I guess the same goes for kids? I mean my mom said she couldn't use the bathroom in peace for almost 8 years.

It occured to me that it wouldn't have been "disorderly conduct" if the officer hadn't said they need to talk outside because of the accoustics in the kitchen made it hard to understand him. Entrapment? Plus by law in that state, when you ask an officer for ID, they are supposed to give you a card with their whole name and badge number, which in the report he never says he did.

He knocked on the door and asked to speak to Gates. The cop didn't burst into the house guns blazing, and Gates was confrontational from the beginning. If a cop came to my door, I would be compliant and polite. I wouldn't be afraid unless I had something to hide.

Who said Gates has pictures in his house? Who said the cop envied the professor? You're assuming things here, which makes your arguments have less weight.

Private property or not, Gates was disturbing the public (the crowd gathered outside as well as the neighborhood) with his shouting. Police should be able to respond to a disturbance call despite public or private property.

I don't see it as entrapment. If Gates hadn't been screaming his head off, he could have had a civil discussion with Crowley.

    we agree!

but seriously i just don't understand why obama would do something that dumb. i know gates is his friend but that doesn't mean he needs to give any of his opposition such a fat pitch to knock out of the park. i am still amazed he didn't stop himself.

Go out into your front yard and start yelling racism or racist things. Better yet stay INSIDE your own freaking house and play some super loud drums.

Then when the cops show up, refuse to quit and see wtf happens.

Unless you guys are saying his screaming was not heard by the neighborhood and disturbing it.

isn't arresting a man with a charge which does not stick one way to "profile" people?

Also by almost all accounts this guy, who lives in a free house with a super awesome job. He grew up in a majority white town, went to grad school on a free ride yet he is instantly playing the victim role? Does he not understand how good he has it? Play the role of victim is the best way to be a victim. Hope you had fun in jail.

Somebody needs to call the police and complain about the noise first in those examples, plus we don't know how loud he was "screaming."

What does growing up in a majority white town have to do with anything?

Didn't he earn a fellowship? That's not exactly a free ride.

Not for nothing, but the statute that Gates was arrested under isn't just a "making a lot of noise" statute. The Massachusetts courts have ruled that disorderly conduct is fighting or threatening, violent or tumultuous behavior, or creating a hazardous or physically offensive condition for no legitimate purpose other than to cause public annoyance or alarm.

You can bet that Gates would view his behavior has having a purpose other than simply to cause public annoyance or alarm.

But beyond that, it's important to keep in mind that Gates and the officer were inside the house and Gates was clearly agitated, asking the officer's name (the officer claims he answered it once before, though his own report says he didn't give his first name and never gave his badge number) . The officer responded (according to his police report) that he would answer Gates' question outside.

According to the police report written by the officer, once outside the officer made no attempt to answer the question (what's your name and badge number?) and almost immediately arrested Gates.

It appears, at least from the officer's version of events, that he purposely lured Gates outside with a lie (that he would answer the questions) so that he could arrest him for disorderly conduct.

Politics aside, I believe as President, Obama should have no business in this local ordeal. Not only Obama, but the Governor got something negative to say about the police department too. Are there not more important issues? Also, Obama must have felt stupid after that and took back his words. What a shame.
