See I think everyone here is overlooking the fact that the cops graduated from Yale, thats why they arrested him. haha.

It's just weird for me, because everytime I think racism is under control, it pops back up. ESPN had a report on the World Cup in South Africa and they talked to a journalist who has lived in the states and in SA. He said, in SA people aren't afraid to talk about racism, but in this country we are. I really thought he was wrong, but after looking at the election of Obama, and this latest incident, I can't help but wonder, where are we going?

What bothers me, is not that the guy was arrested, but that a white guy in the same situation would have had nothing happen. It irks me.

It's not even that, for me, what person wouldn't react violently if a cop bursts into their house, and asks for ID?

EVERY SINGLE PERSON in that situation would have had one of two reactions: fear and complete submission to the cop's demands or anger and outburst. Tell me, when did the police change their motto from "protect and serve" to "arrest and intimidate"? The cop was in the wrong.

Also the community having a history of racial profiling would probably cause a professor (the nation’s preeminent scholar on black studies) to be a little on the edge in a situation like that.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disorderly_conduct

Almost every state in the United States has a disorderly conduct law that makes it a crime to be drunk in public, to "disturb the peace", or to loiter in certain areas. Many types of unruly conduct may fit the definition of disorderly conduct, as such statutes are often used as "catch-all" crimes. Police may use a disorderly conduct charge to keep the peace when people are behaving in a disruptive manner to themselves or others, but present no serious public danger. Disorderly conduct is typically classified as a misdemeanor.

So what should have the cop done when he receives a call that a possible b&e is going down?

Obama is crumbling under the pressure.

This imbroglio with the police officer lowers Obama to a much lower level of dialogue with the American public. He really shouldn't be meddling in local affairs, and he definitely shouldn't be passing judgment without knowing the facts (which he admitted he didn't know the facts). It's a lose-lose proposition for him, all the while stoking racial tensions. Overall it's just a HUGE mistake for him to get into this racially charged issue.

Oh I don't know, maybe because he is a prof from Harvard, the biggest landlord in the city, or maybe because he is friends with the Governor, the President.

Or maybe Cambridge just doesn't want deal with the circus when Al Sharpton rides into town?

Um, you're telling me, the second the cop stepped into the house he didn't see personal affects, pictures and such to confirm that this guy actually lived there? I highly doubt that. The cop was on a power trip, he envied the money the professor had and house he lived in and made it more of a case than it was.

Watch the movie National Security. I'm pretty sure it went down like that.

In this hypothetical, would the white guy be shouting, "Why, because I'm a white man in America?"

The majority isn't usually the oppressed so there would be no need for that to be shouted.

The officer is on private property it's not like he is at a gas station, movie theater, or mall getting yelled at.
