I went to three Best Buys last night around 7 pm and all had lines between 30 and 100 people already so I just went home and bought a few things online. I originally went for the laptop, but I figured I was too late. For those who went, how did they go about doing this? Was it a mad dash in the store or did they hand out tickets?
http://www.drplasma.com/dr/cartid9520076CXMUP1-EVEREST-21/ic-KDL46S2000/itemdesc.html SONY KDL-46S2000 46-IN. BRAVIA HDTV LCD TV for $1895 and free shipping. it looked like a pretty good deal. so i figured i would post it for yall.
I tried to buy a TV online at BB.com but it never would let me...Sears had the same one and they price matched and for doing that, they give you another $15 price match guarantee...sweet... My friend and her b/f got to BB at midnight and waited...they were like 100 in line, and of course, no laptops or even desktops...but they did go to fry's and got the tv she wanted...she said it was crazy... anywho, I slept in till about 6:15, got my tv, and even swung by walmart and CC and wm wasn't bad, but the line to check out at CC was crazy long...I asked about some of the cheap memory sticks, etc, and they were sold out...I guess it was worth it for some to stay up all night for a $2 memory card...
We did the full camping out thing at best buy this year. People were there at 4pm. We got there around 6:30pm and were approximately 40th in line. They had about 20 of the HP laptops and 50 of the toshibas and 15 of the emachines. We walked out with 2 Toshibas, 1 HP, and 1 emachine. It was amazingly well organized and the employees were very helpful, contrary to the usual best buy employee. About 5am, they started letting in people but limited it to about 100 people at a time. Outside, it got down into the low 40's. The cold was about the most miserable part of the trip.
Miguel and I ended up camping out at the Best Buy off of Hollister/290. We initially wanted to go to the one in Greenspoint since we can just go to Fry's afterwards, we met up there at around 1230am in which there were about 100+ people in line already, so we went to the one on Hollister in which were probably 80-100+ in front of us. Mig wanted the laptop in which it was probably late for that, so we stuck around for the rest of the stuff we wanted to get. I got a ticket for the $70 portable DVD player in which I didn't end up getting, Mig got a tix for the Kodak 7MP camera for $120 (orginally $200). Here's the breakdown of what we got: $70 250GB External HD (originally $150) $15 Motorola Bluetooth Headset ($50) $5 100 pack DVD-R media ($70) <--- at least thats what the site says.... $20 Canon all in one printer ($90) $10 Cyber Acoustics 3-Piece 2.1 Speaker System ($36) which btw, i dont want them anymore, so ill sell it to someone if you want it for the same price $3 each Hitch, Jerry Maguire, White Chicks $5 each Dave Chappelle: For What It's Worth, Doom, Bourne Supremacy $8 each MI3, Click $10 X3 $20 My Name Is Earl Season 1 Btw, we knocked out the DVDs by ordering them online for instore pickup, so we didn't have to deal with the mad rush (except for Hitch, Jerry Maguire, White Chicks, MI3, and Click since they were early birds only) Afterwards, Mig went home to sleep, I went to Fry's, they didnt have anything that remotely interested me except for a 320 gig maxtor drive for $60, but resisted. Went to Walmart afterwards and bought the original Star Wars Trilogy for $10 each, had to get them before they discontinued them. Got home at around 1030am and now ready to crash. Not bad experience this year, but planning on getting a laptop next year, so ill probably have to get in line at least 16 hours before hand.
Yeah, I figured out there were much more reasonable prices available online, thanks. $125 for a cable my foot ... what is it made of, pure gold?
I guess some idiot doesn't know Best Buy doesn't do price match on a good day, not to mention on Black Friday.
I decided NOT to do Black Friday since I went to Compusa last night and got a Black Razor Cell for $29, and also got a $99 XBOX 360! It took almost 4hrs....but I got my stuff.
Damn, Miguel invited me out to got bestbuy with him and Dave. I was thinking of going, but the waiting outside over night just isn't my thing. The best buy is close to my house, so it's not a bad thing. You guys got some good stuff.
I had my alarm set for 4:30 AM. It went off. I reset it to 7:30 AM. It went off as scheduled. I realized the deals were probably gone by now. I reset it to 9:30 AM, while glancing over at my wife (who was not going to get up for shopping on her day off). The alarm sounded once again. I set it to 10:00 AM since I'm four minutes from a Wal-Mart and I didn't really have a money spending-spree agenda, and I might pick up a DVD... The alarm went off. I turned it totally off. Shoot... the kids were still crashed out, my wife was home. Why ruin it? It's 1:28 PM as I post this... and we haven't left the house yet. Some things in life are more important.
What are some good websites for HDTVs? Plasma preferebly.. I'd like a 42" at 1080p if possible. (whats the difference between 1080i and 1080p anyway?) My top brands would be Samsung and LG and then after those two Panasonic or Pioneer(?) I've heard LG and Samsung are some of the best and they look very nice also. (I am new to all this HDTV stuff )
There's tons of web sites with reviews and comparisons ... all you need is a simple Google search. 1080p will generally cost you at least $1000 more than an equivalent 720p/1080i TV. The difference in quality is noticeable up close, but for most people (especially if you're using a projection TV), it may not be enough to justify the expense right now (especially since 1080p content is still relatively rare). As far as technology goes, Plasma will give you the best picture, but there are concerns about its longevity. If you intend to keep using your TV for many years, you're probably better off going with DLP or LCD projection. Those have their issues too (primarily the lamp has a limited lifetime and will need replacement after a few years), but at least replacing a lamp is much better than replacing an entire TV. Samsung makes good TVs, I've heard good things about Panasonic too. I just ordered a Panasonic 52" LCD projection TV from Circuit City ... can't wait for it to arrive. Amazing deal at just $999.
Hey Dave, you coulda got a $70 250 GB hard drive online. It's regular price. lol. I like how they say "originally $150" ... yeah, like a year ago.
Well I was looking to get that Toshiba 60" ... wasn't sure what the demand for 'em was gonna be plus I didn't feel like camping out. So I went over to Best Buy SL at around 10am and I didn't see any, not even a floor model; but no biggie. I saw the Sony 46 and 50" Grand Wegas. The 46" was sold out and this couple nabbed the 50" right before me So I went to the Best Buy in Sharpstown and probably got the last 50". Got it for a freakin' great price too. And the thing is HUGE. Yay, finally got HD!
