do you not watch a lot of sports? and don't you have a family with kids...they don't watch any TV either?
MadMax owes it to his family to show the Rockets on highresolution. right now, MadMax doesnt recognize any of the Rockets faces cause they look like Giant Pixels on his TV.
i have a fine TV. we have 3 fine TV's. we watch sports together. we watch shows together. it's great. i have no complaints with my TVs, which are working just fine. the only people complaining about the TVs in my home are people who don't live in my home.
jay they have the same plasma refurb for $1399 shipped http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2509771&CatId=388
that's fine and all, I am just really trying to see your line of reasoning because it's a subject that's interesting to me to further the discussion, have you seen quality HDTV sources on a great setup yourself? I'm not just talking about walking in to a BestBuy or Circuit City, etc to see the HDTVs there, they look like **** (compared to their potential) due to lighting conditions and bad/non-existing calibration. I'm talking like someone's personal quality setup in their house I've never had anyone see my setup and not be wowed by it (people who have never seen HDTV sources before I mean). now that doesn't mean every single one then goes out and buys HDTVs for themselves, because some of them just don't watch TV in general that much so there's no reason for people like that to get one. but for the ones who do watch a good amount of TV, and especially sports fans, they all planned to get a HDTV afterwards sometime. if they didn't, it was solely due to a money issue. that's why I was asking you if you watch a lot of sports or your family watches some TV, cause as far as I know it shouldn't be a money issue with yourself
i view money pretty differently from most people you probably know. need and want are two very different animals. as i said, there are lots of better things i can do with my money than upgrade a TV my family is satisfied with. my original post here was mostly to bother tinman.
Yep, me too. If I've got $1,500 laying around, I'm not spending it on a TV... it's either going to necessities or stuff to make the kids' lives better or into their college fund. When my current TV breaks, I'll get a new one.
CNET seems to think it's the best value plasma at it's size. I don't know much about the Vizio's though, and have historically stuck to name brands...but when you see all these new brands at great prices, then people at avsforum having no more complaints about said brand relative to a sony, toshiba, panasonic, etc.....I don't know. never done refurbished either. for that matter, i don't like the extended warranties either. i know it's like that extra insurance policy, but it seems to be priced way in their favor.
Yep... this is the time of year where we can select the charities we like and decide how much we want to give out of each paycheck. I always fund Lifewater (http://www.lifewater.org/) because they do good work and The Nature Conservancy (http://www.nature.org/) because they actually go out and preserve stuff rather than whining about it and the Children's Fire and Burn Fund (http://www.safehome.org/) because I have issues with fire. For the last couple of years, the kids have insisted we contribute to Heifer International (http://www.heifer.org/) and the kids have even saved up enough to buy a bunny and some chicks on their own. I usually pick a fifth based on what's going on or what my interests are... in the past I've given to The American Indian College Fund (http://www.collegefund.org/), Canines for Disabled Kids (http://www.caninesforkids.org/), and Wheels for Humanity (http://www.wheelsforhumanity.org/). I also throw a little money at The Caring Institute (http://www.caring-institute.org/) because I know the founder, Val Halamandaris, and he is one of the few people I've met in this life who is truly Holy in ways you can feel when you're in his presence. He was a hard-nosed congressional staffer until he met Mother Theresa. The first thing she told him was: "I can tell you care, but you can do so much more to bring caring to the world. Go do it." He did. And yes, I'm intentionally posting this in this thread to guilt all of you. It is, after all, the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas.
whatever you do, do not buy a plasma. Our 42 inch gateway plasma has faded quite noticeably over a couple years of use. stick with LCD, they usually have a better picture anyway.
when u buy a nice TV for yourself, you help someone at bestbuy, sony, the truckers who brought in the shipment, FED EX, all the companies in Japan who make the parts, sales tax helps your state, your state helps you pay for roads, services, police, fire, ambulance. lets not forget when you get your tv, you help timewarner, dish network, directv, and lets say you like the NBA, you help the NBA with league pass, David Stern, Tmac and Yao. lets also not forget if you get an xbox 360, you help microsoft, and when you buy a game, you help out the developers. Yes TV is buying helps.. US ALL
