A new TV....from another thread OLED seems like a good thing....the only hiccup is I have a bright living room, but I typically watch TV at night when its dark
Nobody ever buys an OLED then says, oh crap, my room is too bright, this TV sucks. Simply not a narrative that exists in real life, only in the critic reviews.
Not really the right thread for this, but assuming people will be reading it...my 11 year old wants a gaming monitor for Xmas. I've done some research so assuming I need a minimum of 120hz/144hz but I've read all kinds of arguments on curved vs flat, IPS vs TP, etc., 1080p vs no 1080p Basically he plays Fortnite on xbox...he's talking about a PC perhaps and he likes the 22" monitor he has so was thinking 24 inch (he won't want a bigger one than that) but after that...not sure. So my question is what would any gamers here recommend and what is a good deal price-wise? (I look at slickdeals, bensbargains, and others for monitor deals but there are so many that pop up on sale I am clueless)
Bought this for my nephew few years ago still works great. On a 24" there is no point to go higher than HD. Good luck! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Wides...1920-x-1080-/263963277775?hash=item3d756ff9cf
My 8 yo wants a Nintendo Switch which thanks to COVID have been sold out for months everywhere. Lots of Black Friday ads showing they will be for sale at Kohl’s, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc beginning 11/22 but I assume they will be sold out within minutes of being available. Anyone been able to snag one?
I am ssssooooo out of the loop on Gaming systems I just checked. . . . .WOW!! They seem to start at 500 . . .and those are older systems Rocket River
Need a new GPU after my 7970 died. Bought a 770 from a friend who had upgraded to hold me over. It lasted me about 7 years. A 3070 would be perfect if I could find one. Also want a new laptop. The ASUS G14 looks good. My Toshiba ultra book is 9 years old and still works to browse/stream but it can't load modern games.
Any good deals on soundbars for under $200? Looking at the Vizio V21 from Best Buy for $120. It has DTS Visual X for feaux surround sound and has good reviews.
If you think you might sit next to your son from time to time, or look over his shoulder, I'd go with an IPS. Very wide viewing angles, better image quality. Also, as cheap as 24" IPS monitors are now, you might want go that route. Maybe you'll be able to stretch out how long it is before he asks for a bigger one. ;-) Took a quick look and Amazon has this Pixio for $169.99. Never heard of the brand, but it has a lot of good reviews: Pixio PX248 Prime 24 inch 144Hz IPS 1ms FHD 1080p AMD Radeon FreeSync Esports IPS Gaming Monitor 24 inch FHD (Full High Definition) 1920 x 1080p Premier Esports Gaming Monitor IPS Technology, 178˚ Viewing Angle with Anti-Glare screen 144Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms Response (MPRT) AMD Radeon FreeSync Technology (48-144Hz), G-Sync Compatible Flicker Free, Low Blue Light, VESA 100x100, Connectivity: 1 x DisplayPort 1.2(144Hz), 1 x HDMI 2.0 (144Hz), 1 x HDMI 1.4 (120Hz) 1 x Earphone. Went to Costco and got the pork tenderloin that's $8 off per package and prime NY strip that's $25 off /pkg. The pork ended up being $0.89/pound and the beef was $6.89/pound. I usually prefer ribeyes, but prime NY strip is a great deal.
Can't help you with any US deals or prices. While I agree with Deckard in that IPS is nice for wide viewing angles, it has worse contrast and blacks compared to other display techs and I'd not recommend it if this is for a PC or console monitor where 99% of the viewing is directly sitting in front of the screen. IPS panels are more for TVs where you have family or friends over and not sitting in front of the screen due to side seats or couches (but even then I'd not go IPS and prefer OLED). Seeing how he plays Fortnite, 120hz or 144hz would be great to have, also go for at least 1080p. 1440p would be even better if your budget allows for it.
