Yep. Black women are scared of eeeeeeeeeeverything. Everything. At Kemah, along the boardwalk walking beneath/along Joe's Crab Shack (I think?), you have that place where you can throw food pellets into that writhing mass of fish. I remember a young lady who was shrieking and clutching at her boyfriend and trying to jump away from the fish who were, what?, eight feet below her vantage point? Back in the day, AstroWorld haunted house on Halloween, watching two black girls (18-ish) groping along the path, eyes wide, one of them alerting me as to what was about to happen by saying (don't jump down my throat, this is simply a direct quote), "This part here be the s***." And "Jason Voorhees" jumping out and them screaming like he'd just slit the throat of a Game of Thrones character right in front of them. Even though it was fake and they's already gone through the Haunted House and knew what to expect. As far as movies? Teenagers tend to be the worst. My wife and I will watch them like they're an approaching Pit Bull off his leash when we're waiting for the movie to start. If they sit in front or behind us, we exchange that "get-ready-to-switch-seats" look. Then there's the uber-mega nerds who'd throw rocks at the first real-life vagina they see, whose running commentary ruins sci-fi/fantasy and even action flicks. But black women in a movie theater? Even my Afro-Brazilian wife agrees with this summary: Talk talk talk talk HA HA HA HA HA talk talk talk talk HA HA HA HA HA talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk HA HA HA HA HA talk talk talk HA HA HA HA HA talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk HA HA HA HA HA talk talk talk talk talk talk HA HA HA HA HA talk talk talk talk talk talk .
Actually went to check out Sundance last night to catch The Great Gatsby. Got to preselect the seats online. Came to $25 for two adults ($10 each plus convenience fees). Got screwed into valet parking right in front for $9. Food there was sub-par. We had the chicken quesadillas and a pepperoni pizza that came out to $20. They did have a nice bar with good selections of beer and wine. A pint of Fireman's 4 was $5 and A 22 oz bottle of Blue Moon was $10. You get to bring drinks/food into the theater with you. Will return - the theater itself is smaller but just as nice as others. No noisy kids or screaming babies. Just eat before you go.
I feel for you if you had the same opinion of the movie as my wife and I did. We walked out and went to another movie. We've been to these dinner-and-movie places and they're hit-and-miss. Food is usually major "meh".
There have been several movies that have elicited some crowd noise, but nothing like the standing applause given when Paris Hilton was killed in House of Wax remake.
black people at scary movies are the best. nothing like watching a movie and hearing someone yell "go the other way, b****, he gonna kill you all!" I actually think that adds to the experience.
My friend was ranting and raving over the movie and she went with me to go see it. Wasn't all that it was hyped up to be but it was alright.
I'm not sure which theatre you are referring to, but the Majestic was on Preston St. in downtown. The building is still there but it's no longer a theater, I think it's a reception hall or something like that. I think it's been remodeled, not like when I used to go there , the place was a dump but we didn't care seeing kung-fu masters fighting on tree tops and single handily defeating an army was highly intoxicating......GOOD TIMES... ....... ....... .......
Didn't wanna start another thread so I'll dump this here. I'm guessing this is the type of films shown at black theaters. Reminded me of that one poster who claimed to be a "strong black woman" but was a skinny teen white guy. Like a reverse Medea. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BLY5bwXwK1U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
One thing I hate about going to matinees is people who have no movie etiquette. There are rules to follow but nobody does. Don't sit in front of someone. Stagger your seat. It's annoying to have someone's head in front of you and being unable to stretch your feet out. There are perfectly good empty seats two seats to the side. Don't sit behind someone. Again, nobody wants to have you kick their seat. People go to the early movies to avoid a crowd and have a pleasant experience watching a movie. That entails some personal space. Don't invade that. Give a 1-seat buffer zone to the sides and in front/behind.
What about going with your friend that doesn't shut up? You know, the one that keeps asking what jus happened and what did he say or what does that mean. My god, now that is annoying.
Maybe it's based on income, not race? I know plenty of black people who won't say anything during a movie.
I don't think it's either income or race, but your how you were raised. We are all a byproduct of our upbringing! ....... ....... .......
i watched jumping the broom in a mostly black neighborhood and I had to be the palest hispanic they've ever seen..but I didn't encounter all the loudness or drama that is being described in the thread. What was I doing watching "jumping the broom" ? Have you guys not been paying attention to mrs. thicke's assets over the past 8 years?
Only experienced this kinda thing once- some crazy white lady went nuts when I went to River Oaks Theater to see The King's Speech. Couldn't believe that's where and when it happened to me.
