What issues to society do you believe is happening because children of undocumented immigrants become citizens?
I just think it encourages people to break the law and be default we shouldn't do that. Don't get me wrong. I've very pro immigration. I'm an immigrant. I just think there should be a reasonable and expedited process for it. We should prioritize people who bring value to our society. It shouldn't be a free for all.
Bruh, I never said that. I think you are getting too emotional. I just stated what I think the process should be. I guess when you state anything that is middle of the road these days, you get smashed from both sides. It's part of the reason I don't post here often. There are less than 10 members that I can have a reasonable conversation about anything.
This is false. Stop believing all the liberal headlines and read it for yourself. The Executive Order is not retroactive and would not apply to you or your parents. The EO states that its perspective on birthright citizenship ..."shall apply only to persons who are born within the United States after 30 days from the date of this order."
My parents were legal immigrants. They were also privileged humans where 99% of the people from the country they immigrated from have 0% chance of ever immigrating as my parents were in the top .1% of wealth in their country of origin that gave them an upper hand in access to things like student visas. I want you to tell me through evidence why children of illegal immigrants been here becoming citizens harms society. Jealously isn't the answer. You need to provide stuff like statisical data of a harm you are seeing because of this.
SO.... let's redirect the conversation a little.... Should future offspring of illegal aliens be citizens of the USA? In my opinion, no. Background: My mother immigrated to the United States legally when she was 6 years old and eventually became a US citizen (with great pride to become an American). She learned to speak English fluently and assimilated to America, providing a cultural influence, but proudly earning and accepting American citizenship. In short, she did it the right way.
Again, we shouldn't encourage people to come here illegally so their kids can be citizens. We should have a legal process for it. Why should we prioritize people from Mexico just because they live close to the border versus someone from Europe, Asia, Africa, or Australia.
My understanding is that it's unenforceable (not that you would be in any danger either way) even if the SCOTUS reinterprets the 14th amendment which would be crazy given it was passed to protect the children of slaves as having citizenship. Even then, I do not think they can rescind citizenship - not that you are actually concerned. More likely, it's red meat for the base and could be applied going forward. I would not be surprised if it is used to deny birthright citizenship for new Americans.
There is no moral superiority in immigrating legally vs illegally. Why? Because the circumstances and privileges between those who legally enter and illegally enter are different. Often these two groups come from different social and economic classes. My parents came from wealthy class in their home country which gave them an advantage in the immigration process. Illegal immigrants don't "cut lines". Instead illegal immigrants are exploited as cheap labor so your frozen pack of jalapeno poppers are 7 dollars instead of 14. So appreciate their understanding min wage labor and how it benefits you. You are benefiting from their exploitation and then coming here to explain how these exploited people are cheaters. That's sick. You need some basic perspective.
Apparently you don't like your frozen pack of jalapeno poppers at their current price point. You haven't expressed the societal harm yet. Can you express a data trend or something that shows the harm of illegal immigration outside of these groups of humans being an exploited group of people?
I'm not Exactly. Again, I think it's unconstitutional. However, I do believe we should limit citizenship to people who were born to a legal parent be it citizens, us residents, or people here on visas including tourist visas.
youre being a tad sensitive here...i didnt see him as lashing out. you suggested he should get to be in front of the line for citizenship and he simply questioned why he should have to do that.
I just don't think it should a free for all and you accuse me of being racist. You are no better than the trumptards.
The Executive Order tries to make the argument that the words "not subject to the jurisdiction thereof" will exclude those born from parents where at least one is not a permanent lawful resident or citizen. I guess the SC hasn't come down definitively on this yet?
This is aimed at people having anchor babies right? I think that term is offensive but I just wanted to direct the conversation to the purpose of the EO
You are accusing yourself of being racist. I'm just accusing you of being selfish and having narcissistic tendencies when you portray illegals as cutting lines
Just ignore fchowd. Regardless of whether you're liberal or conservative, his perspectives are just insane and not worthy of any response.
Majority of the OECD doesn’t have birthright citizenship. It’s common sense for most developed countries. Leftists love looking to Europe but when it comes to birthright citizenship or voter ID laws they change their tune.
So please explain the negative effects of "cutting in line" to be exploited to do farm hand work at under min wage outside the fact that these people are being exploited?
