I was born in Houston, Texas over 50 years ago. My parents came to this country legally and when I was born were students at Rice Univeristy and U of H respectively. They were married in Rice University Chapel. I’ve never been convicted of any crime worse than a traffic ticket. According to the executive order signed yesterday I will not be an American citizen because my parents were not permanent residents when I was born in St Joseph’s Hospital. I am not alone and millions of Americans are in similar situations. I suspect many Clutchfans are in the same situation and even many who voted for Trump.
Are you an American citizen at present? If not I would suspect you would go to the front of the line for citizenship. I know nothing of the process, but I wish you luck.
Backlash to this is going to lead into some sort of qualifying amendment for ‘birthright citizens’ who are ‘productive members of society’. That might be the goal here anyway, to start to assign tiers to people of different racial ethnicity. I hope all of the Latinos who voted for Trump are paying attention today.
I am a citizen because of the 14th amendment. Why should I get in line for something that has been a right for more than a 120 years.

Definitely one that is expected to lose in court. The EO is also only effective for future births, so no current citizen should be negatively affected, though I do think there is a can of worms if this EO does hold up. Also, since non-Citizens and non-Permanent Residents are not subject to the laws of the United States, they can no longer be charged with any Federal Crimes, right?
Apparently not. I know a few Latinos including some who voted for Trump who could lose their citizenship. Im seeing Marco Rubio on the news now and ironically under this executive order he could lose his citizenship if his parents were here on asylum status when he was born.

You’re assuming that any Trump action that goes to court will be fairly and impartially adjudicated based solely on law.

Doesn’t seem altogether unreasonable (particularly if there is a relatively painless path for the child to obtain citizenship in the future), but in any case I think you’re OK based on this from the Executive Order: (b) Subsection (a) of this section shall apply only to persons who are born within the United States after 30 days from the date of this order.
This is correct. Once granted citizenship, it can't be revoked. People who are afraid its going to be retroactive should recognize their sources of misinformation and gravely overestimate the power of an EO.
