    OddsOn:

Would you concede that some 11 and 12 years are having sex whether they're old enough or not? Would you concede that some of their parents will prevent them from acquiring contraceptives? If you will concede these two things and still oppose this program, the only rational conclusion is that more kids will get STD's and have kids of their own. Are you in favor of that?

    So
If the kid gets pregnant . .. Who is more likely to help that kid
    YOU or their Parents?

Until you ready to take ALL THE RESPONSIBILITIES of being each kids parent
    don't limit a Parent's Ability and authority

The undermining of parental authority is the REASON for ALOT of the issues.

Do you have kids? I am not against giving them birth control, but parents should have the right to know.

You guys are missing the point, this isn't about giving kids birth control, this is about the taking parents away from raising their kids. This is just one more step promoting the message of "we will parent the kids for you".

This reminds me of when John Edwards said something like "I don't want to shape my kids' thinking" in a debate. Well, you are a dad, its your freaking job to teach your kids, to tell them what's right and wrong.

QUESTION: How many kids do you have?
How would you feel about someone telling you how to raise YOUR KIDS
then when YOUR KIDS do something wrong. . they tell you it is YOUR FAULT?

In some cultural rituals are dangerous. . . how would you feel if your kid was REQUIRED to do that . . because they felt is was GOOD FOR THEM

I am sick and tired of people trying to raise OTHER PEOPLE'S KIDS
    then
when they kid does something wrong. . or the child is hurt. . or anything with the child
Those busybodies are no fricking where to be found

    I love my child
If he falls. . I pick him up
If he is hungry I feed him
If he is hurt I comfort him
If he is disappointed I encourage him
If he is wrong .. I CORRECT HIM

Until you ready to be responsible EVERY D*MN DAY
then don't tell me how to raise my FRICKING CHILD!

amazing to me how everyone wants to tell you how to raise a kid
but ain't willing to put a d*mn dime on their clothes, food, shelter, etc
They don't want anything to do with the kid but tell you how YOU SHOULD RAISE THEM

I can't believe some of you guys actually support not notifying an adolescent's parents that they have birth control. that's not even debatable.

i don't even see the reasoning. do you have to be 18 to buy condoms? they're not that expensive

its just stupid, the kids who are gonna use them will probably buy them anyway, the kids who won't, probably wouldn't if they were free.

Statistics show that when birth control is made available free to the kids, unwanted teen pregnancy drops.

Anyway. I'm not in favor of giving out prescription birth control without notifiying the parents. That isn't what the poll asked.

But if the only to hand out the birth control was also to not notify the parents then I believe that it would preferable to hand out the birth control.

Making birth control available doesn't mean encouraging children to have sex. I am in favor of parents encouraging their children to abstain from having sex. But since not all parents teach that, or not all kids will follow the parenting, then it is far better to have birth control available, in order to combat STD's and unwanted pregnancy, reduce abortions etc.

Tell them to tell you if they are taking birth control. Problem solved.

No . . .don't give my kid ANYTHING without my consent
Giving My kid birth control is not YOUR right or business
    not the schools business
    not the government's business

QUESTION: Aren't you anti-kid .. surplus population et al?

I am in favor of it.

Hopefully we can get these 10 and 11 year olds to have sex before their bodies are ready for it, thus screwing with their reproductive organs and preventing unwanted babies in the future.

Sarcasm aside, I was going to make a stink about how the parents shouldn't even be letting their kids even think about sex at that age...but then I realized the real people who this is benefiting are those whose parents aren't exactly the greatest...

Most of you parents (or hypothetical ones) who are upset about the idea of this...this program isn't aimed at you or your kids. And if sexual topics come up at school or they hand out condoms or whatever...I'm sure you'd be able to handle that discussion with your kids just fine.

Tell you kid not to take it, like you will tell your kid what to eat. The school provides pizza, it doesn't mean they have to eat it.

I am in favor of it, because the next time I have sex with someone's 12 year-old daughter, maybe she'll spring for the birth control and I won't have to dig for quarters for the Gas Station condom machine. Man, that's a real hassle.

That's reason enough for me. These kids are obviously doing **** they don't want their parents to know about, if we want them to not get pregnant or infected, unfortunately, we can't link prevention to being caught.

Yes birth control should be provided gratis to middle school kids. In fact, it should be provided to anyone who wants it, just put dispensers in public places (post offices, police and fire stations, bus stops, etc.) The easier it is to get contraceptives, the less likely people will be to have unwanted pregnancies. I would prefer condoms to pills, because they would help in preventing STDs and could not be used for abortions.

In conjunction with this, sex education should be mandatory before kids reach puberty. We make sex a forbidden subject, try to block kids from getting birth control, and then are dumbfounded by teen pregnancy. It is idiotic.

This stuff is definitely on my list when I rule the world.

You could ask them if they're getting periods yet; or just make an abortion budget.

    1%?
So 1% of anything is reason to change and revamp all of something?
against the wishes of their parents

You know that way more than 1% of these kids beleive in God
is that reason enough to teach in Religion in School?

Practically speaking, maybe not, because I can see parents home-schooling or private-schooling their kids in droves due to something like this.

But morally speaking I don't think there's any question. Preventing five, three or even one 12 year-old from getting pregnant or contracting AIDS is worth scaring, offending and angering every single parent on the planet.
