Believe it or not, I am a dove rehabilitator with TWRC and have your mourning dove. Hence the referral. He/she is doing fine and is with a group of other mourning doves its same age, also orphaned. You made a great choice to take it to our organization. He/she will be tube fed until it can eat seed on it's own. Then to my flight cage and FREEDOM! Again thank you for the rescue. Mrs Dubious
Dubious, why didn't you tell me your wife worked there? She should have said hi. I was the guy that came in with a couple of my cousins. Thanks for the great work y'all are doing, from a fellow Clutchfan.
Small question: How can you tell that it is a mourning dove and not the (nearly identical) white wing dove or ring neck dove? I usually have to look twice to tell the difference when they are fully grown.
I've seen this type of baby bird before it is the common birds you see outside everyday around here. They are dark brown with a long beak and the are not crows but....whatever that species is. Anyways, you are most likely right it probably will be able to fly in a week if the mom was there but might take longer now.
I wasn't there until 2 o'clock to do the daily dove pick up. I recognized your story on the intake form. Thanks for caring.
