AIG is expected to eventually pay back the entirety of their bailout, with interest. The $100B is what Obama is proposing a bank tax to recoup. None of this is remotely accurate.
where did I try to distance Obama from it, I only made a factual statement that it was Bush's program.
what are you talking about, i was just correcting the poster, I've never had a problem with TARP, obama voting for it, or bush implementing unlike you who as sam already pointed out, you can't even take a stand on it because its too bipartisan, your head might explode the only person who thinks there was an implication is the only person who can't think outside of a bipartisan box in this forum
what does the economy have to do w/ gitmo? i would expect my president to be able to tackle 2 unrelated issues at the same time. we already went over this. i dont know why i bother, but here you go... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=176359&page=7&pp=20&highlight=Dick+Cheney+jail - see post #121 obama promised government transparency - he has not followed thru. refusing to release millions of bush-era emails is an example of this. he is either a tax cheat or he did not know how to properly file his taxes - either way, it should have disqualified him from holding office. to make matters worse, he was the head of the ny fed under bush and orchestrated the first round of bailouts, which proved to be a failure.
I'm tired but I wanted to address this. you had to retract your statement initially, then you used about 4 links to reference ONE case of your claim. and even given your dubious claim across the board that the justice dept is relying on tainted evidence obama's lawyers actually agreed with the judge that evidence is tainted, according to ONE of your links
He said you can't think outside of a bipartisan box, but he didn't say you can think inside it either. I would suggest the reality is that you just can't think at all in or out of any box.
did they do this? did the bailouts really save us from certain doom? there are plenty of people smarter than even you who say the stimulus packages/ bailouts were not effective, or at best are simply delaying the inevitable.
but it wasnt a mistake, dude. you are the one who was wrong when you claimed obama wasnt involved w/ tarp. the program started under bush, but obama supported continuing it when he became president.
where did i claim obama wasn't involved with tarp, i said it was bush's program (ie, started under bush) don't be like basso
i retracted my claim b/c knowing what a stickler you are for 'links' i didnt want to present my claims w/out providing links and i didnt have time at that moment to search them out. when i did have time i found the links to back up my argument that the obama administration was continuing to allow evidence gained under torture in court. haha - its bad to present 4 links rather than 1? thats about as ridiculous as your claim that im not allowed to criticize obama since i didnt vote for him. ill just repost my response from last go-round.
I'm wrong that they did know the evidence was gained by torture, however they voluntarily agreed to not use the evidence
i guess i misunderstood what you meant when you said "although I have no problem with TARP, that wasn't Obama's deal" - i took that to mean that you dont think obama was involved with tarp or that you were attempting to distance him from the program. and obama asked bush in dec 08 to continue to program w/ another $350 million - i would argue that at that point it becomes as much obamas as it was juniors. sir, i demand an apology for that!
Really? What's their number and when will they pay it back? Sounds great if they can pay it all back. They recently asked for more money. What about Fanny and Freddie?
Actually if you read through the article, what it says is that the bailouts now need to be followed with real reform, exactly the type of thing you are saying now rings hollow.
