Been playing the PC version of this for the last couple days and I have to say I am really impressed. Its the reason I built a new PC and it was worth it. I had high expectations and was not disappointed. The story, graphics and sound are awesome. It looks so good and there is so much to explore. Its one of those games where you intend to sit down and play for about 15 minutes and then 2 hours later you are still playing.
i watch my husband play this game.. well the demo so far only!! and i love it.. i usually like watching him play resident evil's.. this game has intrigued me of what i have seen of it.. could never play it myself.. but love to watch!
Some quick advice for people (Spoilers) 1) Hacking can be very useful like flying bots that fight for you . Stationary guns that will kill anything in sight very good to set traps. Hack vending machines to get discounted drugs and stuff. 2) Trap setting, think ahead and make the enemy chase you until you trap them. Look for water puddles, oil spills and other things to use. Use telekinesis to lob stuff around like bombs and objects but try things like oxygen tanks. 3) Killing big daddy - One on one tactics won't epscially if your playing on hard difficulty like me so lure him into a room or crawl space only you can access and then fire away all you ammo. Like the first big daddy in the game, make him chase you to the crematorium and then crawl inside the office through the vent. Notice the oil spill on the floor now incinerate the b*stard. I'll add more tips as I go through the game. I've played about 3-4 hours so far trying to balance college, a job and this game so some of you are already ahead of me. Please post some tips if you have any. I just killed the 1st big daddy now I'm going to play some more tonight. Enjoy!!!
no offense, and this is just my opinion, but i dont want to see tips. id like to go through it myself, w/o the help... that is until i get stuck. make sure to put the spoiler tag in next time
well he did put spoilers in ( ) before he mentioned the tips. I saw that and I didn't read past (Spoilers) but yeah, use the tag.
I have P4 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, and my video card something from the Nvidia 6800 series with 256mb which is somewhat old, but not antique. I have turned the settings down quite a bit, and it still runs poorly in spots. This game is a major, major resource hog.
I can't get the demo to run on my PC at all. I have an AMD 3200+, 2G of RAM, and an ATi X800 GTO graphics card. It's not that it runs extremely slow or anything...it just doesn't show up right at ALL. Almost like a black screen with flickering white spots where actual graphics are supposed to be...and my mouse disappears on the menu screens. However, the brief cut-scene in the plane during the intro shows up just fine. I downloaded the latest drivers and everything. WTF? My comp runs Oblivion, F.E.A.R., Prey, etc. decently on a mix of medium/high settings so I think I should at least be able to play BioShock on low. Any advice?
thanks. I am finally giving in and getting a new computer and have been looking at some specs on graphics card and such. I was looking at the geforce 8600 GTS at 256. I think i'll hold off on the 768mb geforce 8800 GTX, for now. maybe upgrade in a year or so. ALso looking at Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB). 2GB sdRam 800mhz physics accelerator i figured that would run just about most games out there at a pretty good quality...any opinions?
Im running an Athlon 64X2 6400 with a geforce 8800GTS and it runs perfectly. We also tried it on my sons X2 6000 and 8600 GTS and as long as the resolution wasnt up terribly high it kept good framerate as well.
What OS are you running? And have you tried lowering the resoloution? That X800 is just barely cutting it but I agree you should be able to run it slowly. Just trying t help.
cool. im leaning towards the 8600 gts. Dell doesnt offer one with 8800 gts, just the gtx 8800 and i dont know if i want to get that at its current price
Im with you on that, its pretty steep right now. To me the price vs. performance between those 2 cards isnt worth it. But I say do whatever it takes to run Bioshock smoothly. Its one awesome game so far.
so you think my specs that i listed abovewill be able to run bioshock at smooth rate and fairly high resolution? I figured if i can run bioshock at a good qaulity i would be able to pretty much run any game more than solidly.
XP, and haven't tried reducing the resolution, partly because my mouse disappears on the menu screens making it nearly impossible to adjust anything. It takes minutes just to manage to click "Demo" and start the damn thing. Everything is just set to whatever the game figured based on my hardware. 1024x768 on high settings is what it defaulted to, so like I said...I should be able to play this damn game, at least with a crappy frame rate.
Oh well...Circuit Schitty was out of them. Go figure at the $49.99 price. I had to buy it at Best Buy for ten bucks more. Then, I had to listen to the sales clerk spiel about how great this game is and how it's better than Halo. Whatever, dude...just process my ass out of the store, please. I hate it when I get a lecture on a product I'm buying. I'll give it a spin later. The demo was fun so I kind of know what I'm getting into.
