Played through some of the demo the other night, thought it was really impressive. Not a huge fan of the gross-out horror games, but I did like the retro-50's ambiance.. very Ayn Rand-ian.
Bioshock looks pretty amazing on it's own, especially in the flooded FPS market this fall with Halo3, COD4, Unreal 3, Haze and such. I think at this point I am going to definitely buy this game next week when it "officially" releases. This game will change the way people think of shooters because it will be the first truly great hybrid game mixing several genres into one. FPS, Horror, RPG, and even some traces of sandbox gameplay can be found in Bioshock. The only thing I don't really like is that the game is lacking online play so I don't know how long the shelf life for this kind of thing will be. I mean yeah Plasmids and playing around with all those different powers plus the potions is great but once you complete the game how many times you are going to go back and re play it over again? Still I cannot wait for this game. I hope people give it the praise it really deserves.
i nearly pissed my pants during the demo when that claw guy was jumping on the elevator i was in and trying to get in. i thought to myself "hell naw i do NOT want to start a game out like this!" anyways, i love how people are saying that this game is a "thinking man's shooter." finally, an fps where i have to use my brain.
I tried downloading this demo and every time my Xbox 360 Live connection dies after only downloading a few MB and the file download is 1.3 GB. It has reset my connection 4 times so I've given up. I wish knew what the deal was and why my 360 can't keep a connection? My modem and router are up. I have to keep cycling the wireless game adapter each time. I can't say I've had this happen before. Whatever. Edit: After some research, I think that everyone and their mothers are trying to download this demo right now. Other people are having the same problem I experienced. It's impacting the servers bigtime and causing a loss of connectivity on the 360s attempting to download. I guess Live cannot handle the load. It wouldn't be the first time.
hmm.. interesting. I might go and buy the 360 for the game. I've heard it's got hardware issues. Does anyone know if MS has completely fixed all the bugs to it?
The bugs are still there AFAIK, but they might be pretty close to getting that all straightened out (whenever 65nm chips start getting used...hopefully). Of course, you would still have the 3-year warranty that covers the most common hardware issues regardless. Anyway, I'll probably end up buying this game as well, although I'll wait until I get a chance to check out the PC demo first to make sure it runs well enough on my PC. As Rokkit mentioned, I figured this game would be good for various reasons (looked good, great developer, unique ideas, etc), but the reviews it has been getting so far are WAY better than what I expected. Think I saw a deal that had the PC version at $39 IIRC...might go for that.
Does anyone know if control settings will be available. Anyone familiar with Halo will know what I'm talkin about. I play with my stick config on legacy. I hate strafing with the same stick that moves me forward. It would also be nice to switch the button layout. If I can't configure my settings, then that alone will be the reason I won't buy it. It's gonna kill my Halo game.
I wasn't talking about other gamers or making speculation. I was talking about myself because the generation I feel online play is very important especially since I love playing with my friends rather than AI which can never match human s in terms of skill and creativity with a game. Also FPS genre in it's self is very multiplayer oriented pretty much every FPS releasing these days is online enabled especially those made on the 360. I not saying this will be a bad game or anything because I think Bioshock is AAA in my book and got me more excited frankly than Halo 3. However the only concern I have is that this game could only keep for about a month at most. It will be an awesome experience but a short one nonetheless. I will buy this game but over time it will lose appeal and I may move on to other things like Halo 3, COD4 or my all-time favorite time killing machine Unreal Tournament 3. This is my take on things because I feel online play is the most important thing this generation.
Haven't purchased a PC game since Oblivion, but this looks like something I've gotta have. I really can't remember the last time I saw so many perfect scores from the media. They can't all be wrong. So, I might as well make one final run at playing a badass game before my computer is obsolete for gaming again (built it a little over a year ago )
comes out tomorrow for 360 and cant wait, but probably will since there a bit of more "responsible" things to take care of 1st. like clutchcity mentioned above, i can not remember the last time a game got sooooo many high scores... crazy. its times like these, and the next few months, where im thankful for having a 360
Well, looks like I'll wait till around 8pm tomorow. I picked up a shift for my friend, I'll work the first 12hrs.
Anybody had luck downloading the PC demo? Everywhere I've tried has been terribly slow or just completely stopped at like 5%. I need to make sure it works on my computer before I drop $50 on it.
Downloaded it today; got a very nice 400 kb/s off of fileplanet and got it done in about 2 hours or so. Great looking game, and the plasmids are amazingly fun to use. If the game can be modded, the replay value will go off the charts; it seems like the physics engine and AI are at very high levels already. Unfortunately, it's killing my 2 year old machine to run it, and to not run this piece of art at maximum settings just seems criminal. I was waiting to buy a new computer until they fixed the kinks in Vista; this is just going to make it more difficult to hold out... I only hope they port Mass Effect next year to PC from the 360; that's a game I'm willing to break the bank for.
No way in hell this runs on my iMac (Core Duo 1.83, X1600 128MB, 1GB RAM), so I guess XBox it is. At least it'll motivate me to learn how to control shooters with a controller! I'm getting this during my lunch break tomorrow
Took me 1hr to download the demo from 3dgamers.com I just finished beating the demo. Great game so far, VERY twisted. Can't wait to try this puppy out on DX10 tomorrow when I install Vista Ultimate. Very nice and smooth running game. Absolutely beautiful. In fact, at the beginning I didn't even Know i was playing when i was in the water. I thought it was still cinematic!
I started downloading the PC demo, although it will take me about a day and a half to complete. It may be longer than that thanks to the upcoming Games Convention in Leipzig. I did check out some lengthy videos of the demo already though. Even though I haven't played the game yet, I can sort of understand some of the praise the game has gotten. I love the atmosphere of the game, and the story (and storytelling mechanics) seems really interesting...what I could make of it anyway. The visuals are really great, although if I had to nitpick, it is a little low-poly for my tastes, not to mention it has a few other graphical issues I don't like (mostly all associated with Unreal Engine 3.0 though, low polys included). Irrational seemed to do a good job of hiding those flaws though, and it took me a while to really notice them anyway (as I said, I was nitpicking). The art design is where the visuals really stand out to me. Very beautiful stuff here. Not to take this thread OT, but I hope they do this too. That's probably the only game I really want to play that is 360 exclusive, not counting any surprise games I don't know about yet.
