Can you expound on this? Specifically, what makes it so much tougher for SCEA to release games on PSN compared to SCEJ?

Whoa... whoa! You guys are missing out! I just finished Final Fantasy IX on my playstation emulator, and I just started play FF7 on the same emulator.

This is the PSX emulator I use: ePSXe

    http://www.epsxe.com/

I imagine you can find PSX ISOS on many sites, or even as torrents, but I used www.emuparadise.org and found FF7 and FF9. Each disc is the size of a movie file (700 MB), so I bought an external hard drive and put all the ROMS in there.

Playing RPG games like Final Fantasy on PSX emulator is actually ideal, if you want to stay back and level-up. Why? Because you can control the frames per second of the game. My laptop is pretty nice, so I can play FF7 at about 6 times as fast as its normal speed, so it's much more convenient to level-up. Plus you have the whole save state thing, so you can do some incredible things in the game.

It is an extra hurdle, but I don't think it would really be that much of an obstacle, at least not for most games. I don't know why SCEA isn't putting up more PS1 games, but I'd find it hard to believe that this is the only reason. Seems more like an excuse.

As I alluded to earlier, things are probably a little more complicated than what we might think (e.g., simply releasing the English ROM/ISO on the PSN). I don't know the whole procedure, but they'll probably have to re-certify it for a US release. Might have to resubmit to the ESRB. It can be a bit of a hassle I imagine. Of course, I would think that sales would offset any of this kind of stuff.

There are some unique cases though. Publishing rights may differ from region to region. For example, I think Sony released Arc the Lad in Japan, but in the US, I think Victor Ireland (Working Designs) owns the publishing rights. And he apparently is (or was) in no hurry to strike up a conversation with Sony about this (some bad blood there I believe).

I've used the emulator for a number of PS1 games. I prefer it over the PS3's emulator for a number of reasons (basically what you said). I use it for my own PS1 games though. Don't really like downloading games I don't own...although if Sony keeps this up, I may just say screw it.

IIRC, I think the PS2 emulator (PCSX2 or something?) has been getting better and better. Haven't had a chance to try it out recently though, but maybe I'll give it a shot in the near-future. Would love to play some PS2 games with improved performance (higher resolution, better framerate, etc.). Sony should just hire these guys to work on the PS3's PS2 BC.

Personally, I think those of you who want to play these old PC/PS1 games should just use the internet instead of scouring all over the place for used copies. These games are so outdated it's not like you're screwing the game companies, since they're not making money off of you either way.

True. I don't tend to look for used games, but I do agree that you might as well download them instead of buying used ($0 going to the developers either way). Well...outside of the legal issues (although I doubt publishers care that much)

I've just been holding out hope that if these games have already been put online in Japan, surely they'd be released here as well. I don't mind paying $5-$15 for these games, especially if that money actually goes to the developer/publisher. But as I said, perhaps this was a false assumption on my part.

I do own a Playstation 1 and FF7, FF8, and FF9, but I'd still much rather play these games on an emulator, because of what I said earlier. Save states and being able to increase the speed of the game adds much convenience I wouldn't be able to experience on the Playstation. Same goes with N64 roms and emulator (I use Project64).

I don't blame you. I feel the same way. I think I've technically only played one PS1 game on my PS3 (Chrono Cross), and that was just to test it out. And it turned out that I probably should have used the emulator (game was buggy on the PS3...and technically the PS2 IIRC). The last few PS1 games I've played recently (SH, Persona, MGS, etc.), I used the emulator. Forgetting even save states and speed improvements, the graphical improvements can be pretty nice (although there is a limit to what you can do with PS1 games).

I was just pointing out that I don't really like downloading the ROMs/ISOs. Easy enough just to use the PS1 discs themselves for the games I own (or borrow).

edit: Of course, things would be different for a N64 emulator.

Forgot to search for scans for Assassin's Creed 2, which I guess have been up for a while:
    http://www.mondoxbox.com/news/16117/assassin-s-creed-2-scan-in-alta-qualit-da-gi.html
    Looks nice.

There is some MAG info in the GameInformer issue, but I haven't seen anything yet (although haven't really looked too hard). Just saw a paragraph, which basically confirmed that it was a FPS instead of a TPS (like Socom). But this was pretty obvious in the screens that went out (or were leaked, I forget) about a week ago or so. I'm not really interested in MAG (no single-player), so I haven't really kept up with some of the recent developments (I think the site went live too?).

I sold FF7 and Xenogears, both original black label on Ebay two years ago for $170 combined..

I don't know if I charged enough money?
