Is it me, or has he really lost "it". I used to love listening to him but now its just annoying. -Commonly gets the call wrong, "And thats a ____... No wait... It's a ___" -He also does the above with players every now and then. Like last night he got Raja Bell confused with Richardson, and said Nash when Brooks was driving. -Argentine, not Argentinean. And they speak Spanish, not Argentinean. -"and Yao says ... Gwin Ton!" (Stupid) -The free throw jinx joke. It's getting old. -As the ball is in the air he sometimes says "Get in there!" (annoying) -Blatant Homerism Anything else?
Bill Worrell is my favorite announcer out of all the ones I have heard in the NBA. I have NBA league pass, so I've heard of all-time. Most of them are boring and make no sense. At least Bill Worrell is smart, funny and has a clue what he's saying.
No, Bill is pretty over the top. I can threads popping up on other fansites about him.... kiiiiinda like how things work around here.
Worrell's lost it. He was only good with Calvin. He was a good analyst for the Astros. But he's plain annoying now with Clyde and Bull. He needs to do a better job of scouting other teams and players and reading news that's not just Rocket-related.
he's just getting older, i love the fact that he shows so much emotion and screams out the play by play during crucial moments, but it doesn't sound forced at all, some commentators sound like they are hired actors or are trying too hard...
Worrell is probably one of the most biased commentators in the league. That's not so much a knock on him though because I would be biased too if I were commentating on the Rockets.
I expect a bit of homerism from the home team pbp man. I don't expect it from the color commentator, which Clyde and Bull seem to do a good job. Murph was way over the top on the homerism angle. Although he had other aspects that were better than Bull and way better than Clyde.
Biased? Yes. But, unlike other homers, he gives credit where credits due. I find him very insightful and humorous.
Bill's fine - the problem is, since Calvin, he's been forced to play "outside his game." Bill is play by play, but has been co-color guy to make up for the likes of Drexler.
I mean this very seriously: How can you complain about Bill Worrell when his partner is Clyde Drexler? Give me a break! I think Bill is OK. He isn't the best nor the worst. He's been around long enough that the familiarity is comforting and helps overcome his flaws. I have no problem listening to him. But Clyde is the one full of nonsensical, purposeless cliches and drivel. Even though he can't hear me, I tell him to just shut up at least a couple of times every game.
If he could hear you, I'd imagine his response would be "heh heh heh." Note to Bill: the free throw jinx schtick got stale sometime around 1995. He reminds me of the old guy that keeps doing the same magic trick even after his grandkids have grown up and are no longer amused by it.
