"Backin' it in. Backin' it in. Fouled no call. Dips, turns, fakes, dipsy-doodles it up and in."

Gene Peterson is one of the all-time great sports announcers, any sport, any team, any medium.

i don't really know how good bill is because i'm biased from listening to him for so long. i will say that i wouldn't trade him for any other play-by-play guy in the league. he's as much a fan as any of us and that counts for something.

bullard is ok, clyde is terrible.

    I gave him A+

I really love this guy. When I watched some of Rockets' games on NBA LP last season he was the comentator. I really like his job. Why? Cause he's feelin' it, the game. Looks like he is on the court with the players. Some of comentators like sometimes on TNT are borin'. They're just sayin' yes when the basket counts and that's all. No emotions, and I think that's the most important thing

Bill's a straight homer. Some of the catchphrases he has are corny as hell, but hey, the man bleed Rockets red. That alone gives him a B imo.

I like Matt Bullard too. He isn't the most fluent, but the man knows his stuff. The way he breaks down the plays is an added bonus for the rest of us armchair coaches and GMs out there. Plus, he's an avid Rockets fan but is still objective enough to not let it cloud his judgement. I like how he doesn't give the team props when they don't deserve it.

I love Bill Worrell, (lol, no offense)to the guy but when I watch FSN broadcasted Rockets games I feel as if I've got an energetic grandfather doing the play-by-play, which to me just seems right at home. But I just can't stand Drexler's nasal tone (for over an hour too....) and his continued repeating of what Bill says. Matt Bullard is by far better than Drexler, he actually knows what sort of plays that the Rockets are doing while Clyde just doodles around with the white pen.

Bill Worrell has been doing Rockets games since back when Calvin Murphy was playing with the team as a guard; probably pushing 30 years. He and Gene Peterson are two of the immortals of Rockets broadcasting.

Actually, although I appreciate the long term services of Worrell, Peterson, and Foley, Worrell is very mistake prone than the other 2.

He regularly mispronounces player's names (while interviewing Morey, he mentioned Scola's Argentina team, and a teammate named NociONO?), he sometimes inaccurately calls game action, and of course he will blindly dispute referees calls/no calls for the Rockets. But he is paid by the Rockets, so you expect him to be a homer announcer.

check the Calvin Murphy thread.. that's all I have to say..

that guy was just a joke, please stop calling for him to return..

and Bill Worrell is the best commentator in the league right now, who would you rather hear guys? Steve Kerr or the r****ded NewYork guy who keeps screaming like a dumbass? and you can always watch a game on NBA TV and hear the funeral-like commentary to realize how great our commentating staff is..

Clyde Drexler is dumb, yes, and he doesn't offer any "insight", but why would u want to hear insight if you consider yourself a die-hard basketball fan? do you need someone to tell u that this team is running the pick and roll and "walk you through" a play to understand the offense? there's no need for all of that, in fact, I get pissed when the commentators start acting like experts and explain a play/style for us, who do u think we are? freakin' 5th graders?

the only purpose for commentators is to have an entertaining experience watching the game, and an emphasis on "entertaining", not an "educating" experience when they start analyzing everything..

some people just never stop whining, the team is doing great, so they cant whine about that, so the next target is the commentating staff...

    very nice..

Yes, some are. And even if you're knowledgeable about the game, that doesn't mean you'll see everything that's going on, in real time. Or are you a professional scout?

Some commentators actually are experts, and its a joy to listen to them break down a game. If they really know their stuff, like Hubie Brown or Jeff Van Gundy, they're far more interesting to listen to than the guys we got.

    I gave Bill a B. He's good - better than average.

Gene Peterson is friggin' awesome. He'd get an A+ and it makes me sad to know that this is his last year.

My dad would. He's a bitter, grumpy man. He'd always turn down the TV and turn the radio on for Gene's broadcast.

Yep...listening to other announcers was downright bad at times. Even though Bull and Clyde are pretty bad, we should be thankful that we have Worrell because some other cities are terrible.

With that said, BRING BACK CALVIN!!
