Major Bill Worrell and Calvin Murphy fan. Grew up with them calling games with Olajuwon dominating and winning the rings.

A true legend and I would definitely welcome them retiring his name in a tribute section.

Everyone loved Worrell, young or old, any race he was the voice of the Rockets and the city for decades.

Thank you from a lifelong fan, your work was a part of some of my favorite sports memories.

Why would anyone come in here and criticize Bill? Just take your miserable selves out of this thread…Worrell leaving is seriously the end of the VOICE for 2-3 generations of fans. It’s a big deal!

Oh, my, indeed time stops for no one.

    Except, perhaps TB12...

It's a good time for him to go, but it is still sad. I so associated the Rockets with Bill that when Craig started calling some games, I hated him. But he won me over eventually. My hatred toward him was only because he wasn't Bill; not because he was bad at the job.

I don't know if he's going to retire retire or just "retire." If the Rockets could hire him to do some long interviews (podcast-type interviews) of past Rockets legends, I think that would be great. I think he could be a great one-on-one conversational type of interviewer.

Bill and Calvin, and Gene and Jim, back when the Rockets were on premium cable so rabbit ears for away games on Channel 20 and 740 AM for home games.

Yeah, can we add a dislike button just for this thread? Most everyone here "gets it" it seems, but a couple posters here are in need of some downvotes.

I don't know what world you're living in, but it's not reality if you think that Worrell isn't well-respected by pretty much everyone who has worked with him...including ex-players. Last night's broadcast made that clear.

NBA players have a vendetta against Bill for ruining his highlights? How far up your ass are you pulling this stuff? LOL. Good day to you.

I wish him well. The worst announcer in the league, but he was a good guy.

Worrell deserves his own documentary! Maybe with Jim & Gene as well :)

Bill was in our ears for most of our lives, like 40-100+ (counting baseball games) of nights a year. I can’t think of any other media personality who has been that much of a presence for that long.

End of a era. Hate him or love him, this dude is a Rockets Legend.

    Bill Worrell was our childhood.

The only ones I can think of are people like Gene Peterson/Jim Foley. I think they had over 30 years with the Rockets, too (?). Then there's Dave Ward who was with KTRK for something like 50 years or something. That's insane.

    That's what I was thinking...

Milo was with the Stros for 27 years (longer than any other team)
    Dave Ward? Ron Stone?

As far as sports go, Worrell was there from before I got cable (radio/rabbit ears), then the day I got cable (HSE), through today. That's 42 years that I remember him calling sports.
