Magic vs Rockets, like... around 97-ish. Houston had big problems beating Orlando during that stretch. Anyways...

We need a 3 so we put in our 3rd string PG. Walton runs down the roster; "Olajuwon, Drexler, etc..." and finally gets to - "Ra? Reh, Raah?, Reeeecasner?!, who is Recasner, what are they doing".

    Good times.

This is arguably the worst post in the history of clutchfans.net. The lack of appreciation for the greatness of Walton's basketball commentary, shows a clear disregard for the beauty of the english languauge and sports intersection. I sincerely hope the poster formerly know as apostolic3 comes to his senses on his opinion on the most profound announcer to ever grace espn.

Loved Walton as a player in college and the NBA. His melodramatic, almost Grateful Dead-ish, descriptive riffs and rants weren't my flavor of color commentary. There was a period a few years back when he was spouting some bizarre, random stuff. Just a matter of taste. No hate. Just like Clyde: loved him as a player; as a color man, not so much.

One of the greatest color analyst's in the history of broadcasting.

    He will be missed.

I totally second that, I hate how this tool can defend a sleaze bag like Jim Grey, but it's probably only because he's a sleaze bag himself.

What makes you think hes defending Jim Grey and not the integrity of the game he loves or the his own personal verbal integrity. Maybe vulgar language isnt his thing.

    Me, too.

    Ugh. I hated that guy.

Yeah, he liked Dream, but he ripped up on every other Rocket in history.

    buh bye, Bill.

I think the primary reason some get bothered by him is that they take his intentional exaggerations ("Worst shot in the history of the western civiliation!!!") literally. Bill Walton is highly entertaining.

Thought he was awesome personally, loved how everything was exaggerated! Him and Walt Frazier (he is the Knicks commentator right?) would be so funny

No he didn't! He's said a lot of great things about Yao. He even came to Houston and watched many of Yao's workouts and appeared on "Year of the Yao" saying Yao is a great player and an ambassador for the game of basketball. He's said good things about Tracy McGrady, too. And, Walton's been positive about the Rockets even when most of the media overlooks them. I don't understand the hate for the guy.

Bill Walton's half-baked musings and his penchant for the hyperbolic were a constant source of entertainment for me personally.

    He will be missed.

I LOVED Bill Walton's Commentary.. My love for the Rockets is so intense its hard for me to watch most of the teams in the league with out getting bored. Walton's color commentary made it fun to watch.. It was hilarious when he would get disgusted with players or the coaching decisions and of course expressed his displeasure.

Thank goodness JVG and Jackson have picked up where he left off or the NBA would really be unbearable.
