walton is annoying, his colleagues get irritated by him, especially snapper jones. "throw it down big man" is annoying and every move a player he likes is just a "faaaboulus move"

Bill walton greatest commentator of all time?

maybe if you were born 12 years ago and locked in a closet for most of those years.

wait, not even then. I'm a flamethrower.

    Walton suffers from multiple-personality-disorder (MPD).

play-by-play: "Hakeem misses the baseline jumper!"

Walton: "Hakeem has been in a horrible slump"

play-by-play: "Wait!!! he grabs his own rebound and dunks it home!"

Walton: "Brilliant!!! The Dream has been on a roll unlike no center in the NBA and will undoubtably go down as the best center and is the hallmark of a true Hall-of-Famer!"

I personally enjoy listening to his comments and never take him too serious.:)

the tenaciousness, the awareness, the other adjective that ends in ness that is _____________.

that's my impression of Bill Walton. He always says that. At least once a game he picks a player and describes them in three adjectives starting in the word the and ending in ness. For some reason it's always really annoyed me.

walton is a clown. once in a while he'll say something half-intelligent, but all in all he's an annoying buffoon.

    Rockets2K,

I was thinking the same thing!

Calvin and Walton are similar in that they have a tendency to embellish; a play or player.

"That the worst shot I've seen in the HISTORY OF THE NBA!"

"He's the best player in the HISTORY OF THE NBA!"

He changes this opinion game to game. If he's watching Garnett, then he's the "best." If he's watching Duncan, then he's the "best" and so on and so forth.

Walton is freakin hilarious. I don't know about best of all time, he's kind of lacking in analysis at times but he is easily the most entertaining commentator in the NBA. I'll watch games just to listen to him.

"Jason Collier, displaying brilliant footwork. Shades of Hakeem Olajuwon!"

    :D

Walton has undeniably good basketball knowledge and experience. However, he may be the worst commentator of all time. By continuing to speak in hyperbole, he gives the viewer a poor feel of the flow of the game. And he refuses to shut up! He's usually on a 3-man team, but he never lets anyone talk. The best thing about Walton is that he provides ammunition for Steve "Snapper" Jones to make fun of his ridiculous comments. I seriously cannot stand watching nationally televised games with him announcing. It ruins the experience of watching the game.

Surely you jest.....don't you recall during the 94 play-offs when he had to go on the air and APOLOGIZE to Rockets fans for being so rude and one-sided???

Amen. I have never, in my life, seen or heard an announcer butcher so many players names. When will someone tell him that it's Eddie GriffIN, not Eddie Griffith. There were many, many other screw-ups that I can't think of right now.

His catch phrases are just about the lamest I've ever heard, he doesn't have a good broadcast voice, and he is overly opinionated.

I love it when he gets proven wrong or told off by John Thompson.

Bill Walton is entertaining to say the least... take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Tom "the tool" Tolbert is exactly that... a friggin tool.

MY favorite would have to be Marv Albert and the "czar".

I think you meant EVERY James Posey play.

Walton is entertaining, but I agree that his attitude towards the superstars is obnoxious.

he may talk about them now, but I seem to recall (and judging by other responses, Im not alone) that during the 90's, he wasnt too kind when calling the games.
I have to admit tho, back in those days I paid alot less attention to the announcers since we were always partying while watching the games, so the announcers couldnt always be heard. :)

    DavidS,
The thing about Calvin is, he will normally give a player his props if he deserves it. He may be a homer, but he knows good basketball and isnt afraid to talk nice about the opposing players if they do something he likes.
Walton has a tendency(as you said) to flip-flop his opinion from one second to another depending on what happens..
must be a side effect of all those mind-altering drugs he did in the 70's...

I don't like how he rides RJ's jock, calling him the next great superstar of the NBA. Of course, "throw it down, big man" and "that was HOOOORIBLE" are bad catch phrases, but he makes them sound so funny. He's wise, and makes you laugh, which is what a color analyst should do. I like him, but not best of all time. That'd have to go to Al Michaels and Keith Jackson.

I may get flamed for this, but...

I think we as Rocket fans were so defensive about the lack of national media coverage during the championship years that we overreacted anytime anyone said anything negative about our team. Myself included. If the Rockets were playing bad, he would say so and that together with his over the top hyperbole (strictly for show if you ask me) caused people to hate him.

Of course, now that Yao is here, we don't have to worry about a lack of national media coverage for the next 10 years. :D

55 1/2 hours until the season starts. I can't wait!!

IMO I think Bill Walton and Dick Vitale SUCK!!!!! i wish they would just die SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON.... I mean they are as annoying as as any person a live The DEad Red Head is not funny and his knowledge of the game is small at best. I would take Calvin Murphy over him any day any game. Calvin Might be silly but he atleast present his B-ball knowledge in a mannner you can understand. I do not know what the hell Walton is talking about 99.9 percent of the time. I have missed a lot of national televised games (even Rocket games) because Walton was one of the comintators. He is HORRRRRIBLE
