That's the thing about that season that pissed me off the most. You just went to the conference finals, fought hard but came up short because you just didn't have quite enough guys against the eventual champions. If the Rockets respond to that properly and play hard the next season, building on their accomplishment, maybe other players look at them and think they're going all the way really soon and they want to get in on that. Instead they #$!@ the bed and looked a mediocre team going nowhere, not worth signing with. Truly a lost year.
Wow, great 2nd interview. Everyone is going to completely forget about Morey after listening to Jimmy Lovine.
Probably the most relevant part for the future is that Morey is patient. I also don't get the part about carrying contracts into the regular season since those nongaranteed contracts aren't there that long but perhaps there's a S&T possibility with the Raptors for Tucker if we can't find another deal soon. Then wait for the initial signings to be over and use the MLE on a guy who may have been left out to dry when the money runs dry
I like the idea of the BAE not being used until later when buy outs happen and Morey is in the a good position offer that to have an advantage over the other contenders. I do not believe Morey is going to hang on to those NGteed contracts past their dates of guarantee. What would be the point to spend money on them for the nature of those contracts and then let them become useless, given that you traded for the contracts and not the player themselves. Makes no sense... we essentially have until the 7th to do something with scrub Ryan Kelly's contract. I do not believe Morey for one second when he says that he is going to go into the season with his arsenal of TPEs... yeaaa ok, DM... ok I think this Melo thing might drag on a little bit. The fact of the matter is this. Carmelo Anthony holds all the cards. NYC has no leverage. All this bogus story about them wanting draft picks, young talent for MELO is stupid. Melo has chosen 2 teams, these 2 teams do not have any of those things....... so it will come down to either you trade him and get his salary off your books, you go into the season with a disgruntled Melo, or you end up swallowing the money and buying him out. I think the choice for the NY Knicks is pretty easy one. We just have to wait......... and ROCKETS have to find a 3rd team smh or even a fourth. I have said this forever, since we got Ryan, he was going to be one of the MOST TOXIC contractsin the NBA, i didn't think it was going to be nuclear waste. The market is drying up quick and good teams do not have that much money to spend anymore..... so the Vets that want to min could be looking for smaller deals now..... or if they wants to get paid go to the scrubs of the world like suns and nets. We will see....... In conclusion, rejoice.... we are better than we were last season, we have a good GM who doesnt show his cards to the world so take what he is saying with a grain of salt........ Sunny days are ahead.!!! Rejoice. P.S. Rednation and clutchfans and Rockets twitter should get back to their normal lives and get away from their f5 buttons.... the world is passing us by.... this might take a while.
A lot of what you say here just isnt true. The NY brass can wait and hope Melo changes his mind. Players do that. Whats true right this moment may not be in a day, a week, or a month from now. Sure, its a gamble on their part. But only they can trade him, Melo cant trade himself.
more shots thrown at the Rocket's fanbase...I swear if the arena is still half empty at tip off and quiet throughout the game with CP3 here then there's no hope Morey thinks a multi year tank could lose a generation of fans...the team already struggles to get support, and we're 1 of the best teams in the NBA I can only imagine what the atmosphere would be like at home games if the team was tanking...empty seats everywhere and the place would sound like a library
.......... Melo is not changing his mind.... unless NY Knicks become world beaters and change that dumpster fire into the Taj Mahal. In other words. No.... not happening.
Only thing he would have to change his mind about to defeat our efforts would be to include one more team he would play for that had assets the NY brass wanted.
I don't think Morey ever said that. He has said that if it was up to him he would tank in order to rebuild exactly like the Sixers did/are doing, but Les won't let him. The problem with attendance is the lower bowl seats are mostly owned by corporations in Houston whose employees never use the tickets.
He did say that, did u listen to the entire podcast? I didn't make it up. He said that he felt like we could lose a whole generation of fans if we were bad for 3-4 years. He also brought up how people are now going to Astros game, but for a while they could barely get 500 people to go to the game. He said that is a big reason why in Houston they would never choose to rebuild.
Muorey is right about ....We need more trophies, more tournaments than the Playoffs.... Mini Preseason tournament........ Cup of Playoff losers More winning helps ease the mind.
10:30 mark of the podcast, Morey said the Rockets would have had a real shot at Kevin Durant (the "premier free agent" of 2016 who is on the "best team in the league" right now) if the Rockets had entered the offseason having had the season that they had in 2014-15 or in 2016-17 and that we had no shot at him because of the crappy season that we just had. The current state of the Rockets and the NBA could have been a lot different had the Rockets not crap the bed in 2015-16.
