Paying Jaylen Brown 63M is not a win. If we are going to risk the 2nd Apron in a couple of years it needs to be for a tier 1 superstar. It is a much better idea to pursue either a superstar like Giannis or multiple good players that balance out our roster. Amen, Sengun, and Jabari is a fine very young core. Build around them with multiple near all-stars and then you can compete. If we are out on the superstars our main objective this off-season should be to off-load FVV and sign multiple near all-stars that can shoot while still preserving some draft assets for the future.

If you pay Jaylen Brown 63mil, in 2 years he's 30yrs old and likely still pretty good, and the Rockets will have another likely lottery pick with the Suns. and 2 more likely lottery picks from the Mavs and the Suns in 2029.

If you pay Giannis 63mil, the roster is set because all the Rockets accumulated picks are in Milwaukee, and in 2 years when Giannis is trending downward, you hope the Rockets can still compete cause Milwaukee has their swap rights and unprotected picks.

If you split that 63mil among two players, based on 2024 FA signings adjusted for cap inflation, that's something along the lines of adding Miles Bridges + Nic Claxton to this roster.

That's the actual comparison to make here.

Jaylen is a better fit with Sengun and Amen, but if Sengun is going out in trade, Giannis is the much better player and the fit will be fine with the additiion of shooters. Either trade comes down in what you have to give up and what other moves you are able to make. Jaylen’s injury and regression at the 3 point line this year should also be taken into account and he has one extra year that costs 64m.

I just think we'll have to give up too much for Giannis. Plus with Giannis we would have to make more moves to get shooters around him

You may be right. The thing is that you can only afford one super max contract before you find in yourself in the same position Boston is trying to get out of. Is Jaylen good enough to be your only supermax contract or should you build around Amen, Sengun, and Jabari by adding multiple 3rd tier guys that can shoot and play defense?

Yes I think Brown can average 25 on this team (assuming Green will be included in that trade), and thats all we would need from him. Amen, Alpi, Sengun, Jabari will all be better next year, but with Giannis this team wouldn't be the same, it'll probably be a brand new team, n I don't think I like that.

I’m not in favor of getting either one if it costs more than two picks. With Giannis I would consider Sengun and 2 picks for Giannis. It still leaves lots of assets to fill around Amen, Giannis, and Jabari. If it costs more than that for Giannis you simply don’t do it. If the Bucks would take FVV, filler, for 3 picks I would do that. They could start their re-build to be competitive by the time Jrue comes off the books and the Rockets could trade Sengun for a better fit at center and future picks or another shooter or two.

It's not that easy to sign multiple near All-Stars. I also don't think FVV is the problem. The problem is Jalen Green.

I don't think Jaylen Brown is a perfect fit but I do think we should trade for the best player available who fits our roster. Due to his contract, I don't think he'd require too many assets to acquire.

Giannis may be the best player available but he's a terrible fit with both Sengun and Amen. I don't think that works at all.

I'd rather upgrade the biggest weakness in our rotation. That's Jalen Green.

Devin Booker, Derrick White, Tyler Herro, Jaylen Brown would all be much better solutions than Jalen Green. We should acquire any of those who become available and are reasonably priced.

So it’s 35 yr old Jrue Holiday and injury-prone Porzingis.

I don’t think any of the guys you listed are available without a tragic overpay. Our backcourt (both of them) is problematic. We know what FVV is and has always been. We’ve never seen Jalen with a decent PG. First KPJ and now FVV. I’m ok with trading both, but keeping FVV over Jalen is crazy.

FVV has been a top-3 player on an NBA champion and was terrific in our playoff series.

He's still a top-40 player in the NBA on EPM despite the poor shooting numbers. His defense remains excellent.

Jalen Green is still a lot of potential but the on-court product is still a below-average starter. His playoff performance was probably the greatest display of incompetence by a single player in the playoffs thus far.

I think FVV is a good fit on this team and he doesn't dominate the ball and that gives Alpi, Amen and Jalen opportunities to initiate the offense.

I just think we'd be much better off bringing in someone better than Jalen Green. That is easier than upgrading the FVV position.
