Spurs fans proudly wear their black and silver . Didn’t have to worry about the owner trying to please casual fans with clown fonts and clown jerseys. Then they don’t have to worry about the uniform obviously changing to look exactly like another country’s flag to gain popularity
I get why they pander to China so much, but it’s getting to be too much for me our snapbacks on Footlocker and Champ’s website are these right now please bring back the red and yellow and get rid of the grey
it was in a david baron article in the chronicle last week but charlie pallilo was the one that brought it to my attention. he was just eviscerating the city for it's complete dismissal of what is turning out to be a historically good basketball team and definitely the best regular season basketball team this city has ever seen. i don't blame him. this city simply does not care about the rockets. they shouldn't HAVE to win a title to muster citywide support... it certainly helps but we're not this northeastern city with a rich heritage of profession sports championships... we as a city haven't earned the right to turn our noses up to these types of seasons. it's a sad indictment on the collective state of basketball within houston that this team not only struggles to fill the arena but is actually tuning OUT the rockets in a season like this.
The Astros had a historic regular season yet you could see a sampling of the 'eviscerating' they would have suffered had they not gotten past the Yankees after NY took a 3-2 lead by reading comments on this BBS. Shoot, Astros didn't even average 30,000/game (although if that includes the games in Tampa Bay, then they would probably have been a bit over 30,000 had those games been played in Houston).
I'm assuming everyone who voted "yes" has a decent understand of the crowds for the other 29 teams? To place them in the bottom three is kinda silly if you have no grasp on the real question being asked...
Can you name 3 NBA cities that are consistently worse? If the NBA was a once a week game on Sunday, Houston would have no problem. Yes, football is king here... but it also helps that there are only 8 home games that happen usually when people are off work and available. The Astros will also benefit from the recent championship... but also the fact that baseball (especially weekend games) is the only game in town for the summer when kids are off. Houston will bring it for the playoffs... always has in the TC era... but will take a title for this city to once again follow this team night-in/night-out during the season.
places that are currently worse like PHX would have better crowds than us if they had a 60+ win team with Harden and CP3 our crowd is usually pathetic for a team that is as good as the Rockets have been which is why I won’t fault anybody for putting us in the bottom 3 you always see people on Reddit/social media shocked at how empty the arena is, and opposing team’s broadcasters have pointed it out too
you think those are problems unique to houston? apparently SA's ratings are UP 6% and they are considerably worse this year. those excuses might be valid if ratings were down across the board but from what i've seen the are not.... a 20% year to year decrease is a staggering number, especially for a team with the BEST RECORD IN THE LEAGUE. face it, this city is completely apathetic to the rockets. they are a non-story here. sure that'll change when the playoffs start (to a degree) but there's definitely reason to be concerned. i can assure you the rockets organization is taking notice.
They damn well have to take notice. They’re going to fine, financially, when the team is winning like this... but could you imagine what happens if/when there’s a down year or two? The Rockets have been blessed to have a winning record nearly every single year for the last 30+ years... if they ever had to go into a multi-year rebuild, they’d probably be back to the 8-9K early 90’s Summit days.
As another poster said, Dish Network not carrying the channel has an effect, as are other factors. You can’t simply look at ratings at face value. Even if you did look at it at face value, why is this a reason to be concerned? Are the TV ratings having an affect on their overall play?
It’s 20% down compared to last year. Dish has never had the channel. It’s cocnerning because its not going to be a “quick fix”. The dead crowd is not simply due to “corporate types”. Yes, they’re the best team in the league despite a lack of support from the city they play in, not because of it.
