I will Morey is doing what we want. :)

I noticed that, too. Perhaps the GARM can make a real comeback!

If Jordan Hill amounts to something, than I will truly have to tip my hat to DM.

first, why is it only based on Jordan Hill? Either way, Morey got picks and Kevin Martin. Not enough?

second, why do you have to wait and see on Hill? He's a PROSPECT. Some work out, some don't. He has a better shot to pan out than some others, but Morey was able to obtain him in hopes that he pans out. Nowhere did Morey's trading for him guarantee anything.. not sure why he needs to be judged now based purely on whether Hill develops properly or not--after all, that could be based on many other things

    Kaleidosky.

It appears to me that he is saying that even without Hill, the deal is very good.

But if Hill can transform into a contributor then this deal with be out of this world.

Because I don't see getting K-mart for T-mac to be all that much of a stroke of genus. The Rockets had a hand in turning him into a pariah. The draft picks are great, but we are taking on salary which prevents us from being active in the next few free agent markets. That has to be considered as well.

K-mart is injury prone so if he does get injured it really hurts this deal which then becomes about draft picks. Doesn't make it a bad deal, just makes it kinda average. There's a lot of risks involved.

But if Morey really does see value in Hill, and he does develop into something, that all of a sudden, it's clear why this trade was really great.

It's a good trade, I won't deny that, but it's one with a lot of risks and if's. That's what keeps it from being a great trade...and of course, trades are always judged in hindsight.

Even if we let McGrady expire we wouldn't have enough salary to offer a Max contract; not even close. We would have to do a S&T for a top level free agent, and now with these picks we're in a much better position to do that. We are also able to resign Lowry and Scola, which we couldn't do without messing up our cap space if we went the McGrady expiring route. Not to mention we also get the 8th pick of the 2009 draft (Hill) and Kevin Martin.

On the contrary, Bill Simmons is an incredible writing talent. He is immensely entertaining, sharp-witted, and capable of conveying his thoughts in a manner understandable to Joe Schmoe and the well-educated. He is one of the few sports writers, imo, that can captivate an audience for an extended period of time (as witnessed by his oft-lengthy columns). To this day, his "Annual GM Summit" article ( http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/060224 ) is one of my alltime favorite pieces by ANY sportswriter. There's a reason he's the final word of ESPN mag. He leaves an indelible, entertaining, and informative impression on many.
