Never ever wanted Artest, and am glad he is gone, but I did like his never quit attitude on the floor.

However, chemistry is a big big thing in winning basketball.....

Glad Ron has taken his alchemy elsewhere.

This is why no one should give up on this team this season. Chemistry wise, They will have a better atmosphere in the locker room without Ron. :D Not to mention that they added Ariza.

He also tweeted this about that article:

sportsguy33 Forgot to put in Part 1: Artest had lowest 2-pt FG% in NBA and lowest for forwards by far (qualifiers only). http://tinyurl.com/lqcaww

But thats just the thing. Hes not a journalist and yet he's treated like one. Journalists are supposed to be object and factual. Simmons hardly tries either of those things. He is a blogger. I used to read his stuff religiously, but I stopped paying attention after he started shoving boston down my throat. he only started getting overly pro-boston after the city's teams started having great success in recent years. Before that, it was just a side note or joke about how terrible the celtics were, how agonizing the red sox situation was, or how happy he was that the patriots were finally a respectable team, etc etc. It didn't predominate the articles, and it was amusing, but after a while, thats what it was all about- very annoying and very over the top.

My point is that even after yao has gone on to great success, simmons still looks to put him down. Anyone who has read simmons stuff for years (as I have) could attest to this.

I can understand your frustration, but I don't think he is treated like a journalist all the time. Strictly from his fights with ESPN and the mag both it's like they realize he's not a pure journalist and they treat him differently. I could be wrong, but that's just how I look at it.

For me "shoving Boston down your throat" imagine you are a blogger. You grew up in Houston and have been a huge sports fan all your life. For years your teams sucked. Basketball, baseball, hockey, underwater basketweaving.. they all were horrible... not even sniffing the playoffs. Then suddenly in a matter of a year, your football team wins the superbowl, your baseball team wins the world series, your basketball team wins a chip... wouldn't you be giddy and talking about it every chance you got?

Maybe I can see myself doing the same thing... I ridicule the Reds and Bengals regularly, but if they turned their boats around and starting winning championships I would be shoving it in the face of every Colts, Cardinals or Pittsburgh fans that I know.

You used to read him religiously and couldn't figure out that he wasn't a traditional journalist? Simmons has never pretended to be a traditional journalist and has written about that many times. As far as his opinion pieces go, they're no worse than the opinion pieces you see in newspapers by traditional columnists, just look at Justice.

The very definition of a journalist is a person who keeps a journal or diary of daily events which seems to coincide quite nicely with the definition of a blogger.

Reporters should be objective. Journalists/columnists should be entertaining.

YOu know I want to like Bill Simmons. He can be funny and give good stories like this, but his pro-Boston stuff tend to wear me down. He is waaaay worse than Greeny and the Jets. With that said, this is CLASSIC funny stuff. I just wish ALL Ron-Ron goofy stunts would have come out. I wish I could have seen Les' face on that bus.
And i agree that Dork Elvis has done a good job of setting up for a big trade.

This is a minor example of the craziness too. People have no clue what really goes on

...he used to work at the Boston Globe.

...also, he is a personal friend of Morey since they became friends during Morey's lower level days in the Celtics organization. I don't think many people knew that until recently. Simmons himself only announced it on his podcast during last season after he said Ric Bucher "outed" him.

    You mean like this?

He also gave Yao big props for his performance after game 1 vs the Lakers. And before game 1 Simmons' recent opinion of Yao was that he was a good player but not a tier 1 superstar, which while you may disagree with, isn't an unfair criticism, and certainly not the same as trying to prove he is a bust.

After reading Simmons' article (he is always a great read) I'm even more happy about getting Ariza rather than Artest.

I have been wondering about this and drooling over the Adelman-Paul pairing. What Adelman did with Terry Porter in Portland has only been equaled a couple of times in the NBA, (another being the showtime Lakers.) Anyone unfamiliar with those Adelman teams should look up Porter's assist #s from those years -- off the charts.

As to the Artest mention, it made me really angry to read. Game 7 and our guys were clearly out of it from the start, and you just have to wonder how every little bit of non-professional crap added up that night. Everyone should be on bus #1, ready to go. It was arguably the most important game of the decade for the Rockets.
