The controversy is stemming from comments he made that some foolish people are taking out of context that had to do with Sharpton. I think him getting involved here is perfectly understandable. Who else? Imus? Imus didn't go to Sharpton for absolution, Sharpton went after Imus's neck and ran him through the ringer.
nah, he isn't seeking absolution for the dinner they had, but his radio comments. nor is he seeking Sharpton's "judgment" 'cause their cordial. yup, Imus appeared on Al's radio show to proffer his apology. and please, no one put Don through the ringer except Don himself.
Check out Virgil's - which has Texas Beef Brisket....they have some special smoking process. Blue Smoke does a pit bbq but it's not my favorite. My favorite? Daisy May's which is all the way in a random abandon spot on the west side nears hell's kitchen. Big portions and they do a lot of things with beer and whiskey. Now, if these places are below standard then I need to go down south and get me some BBQ fix. I had some ribs in North Carolina that were heavenly to be sure...but check out these spots and let me know what you think.
its amazing how people cannot grasp what he was trying to say. It wasnt expressed the most clear, but if one takes a second and tries to really understand...its obvious and actually a decent point. but screw it. It's bill! what a racist!
According to him, he was relaying a story about his grandmother and her predjudice towards blacks even though she hadn't met any. He was stating to her that she had no right to believe that way until she'd been around some for a while. That part he stated was a snippet in a lot of what he was saying about that. Again, the entire interview is on their website. Why don't you go look?
the comment about the ice tea mofos was a response to how he felt that rappers were misrepresenting normal black folk. Stephen A. Smith was actually defending this guy on his show...

God knows Austin is a bit of a desert when it comes to the fine arts, although the local theatre isn't bad. Certainly nothing like Off Broadway, much less Broadway itself. D&D. Hmmm...you mean an entire sentence CAN'T be taken out of context? here's an example. what if I said..during a radio show. "lets talk about racism. What if some idiot made a dumb comment. I don't like people of other races. The media would oviously jump on him..and rightly so" Now...anyone here can copy the one sentence-"I don't like people of other races" and attribute it to me. Did I type it? Yes. Did I mean it? Obviously Not. You just have to see the entire discussion to see how it was being used. This happens A LOT with Media Matters..the company that started this whole mess..They have a habit of chopping words (ala Micheal Moore) and using them to sound like your saying something completely different. Again..to understand whay O'reilly was saying, you really HAVE to listen to the ENTIRE DISCUSSION. not just one sentence. Thats completely unfair to judge anyone by a soundbyte. Believe me..I work in TV, you can make a soundbyte say almost anything you want.
Well, it's on the WaPo site right now. I grew up in East Texas in the 1960's and 70's. Of course I've chosen poorly at times when talking about race, but I'm aware enough to recognize it and I learned from it when it did happen. Please, please don't put me on ignore. Don't sell it short! I thought the same till I moved to NYC and started doing/watching theater. There's a lot of bad theater in NY. Made me proud for the work I did @ Mainstreet and Stages in Houston. But NY food still kicks Houston's ass. Just got back from the Obama rally in Washington Square Park. Just amazing. 30,000 people easily
But ya know, i think african american culture is very energetic, loud, and lively - it would be a surprise to me to walk into a quiet restaurant full of african americans sitting quietly. Just like it would be to go to an Indian event and not here the break out of bhangra. there's cultural expectations, and I don't think that's necessarily racism. I see black culture as very vibrant and active - so to imagine a subdued restaurant is hard. And I've traveled to Africa and other places in the carribean that's dominated by African decendents - so his comments may really not be that off base. I'm not saying they weren't an ignorant thing to say...i'm just saying that if you have a narrow context of experience, it's understandable why someone my have that stereotypes. Stereotyping is not synomimous with racism...that's what i'm trying to say.
