actually, there are 3 very awesome BBQ places in New York City...done souther style and everything. So disgustingly good. I think they are North or South Carolina style but one might be Texas.
I dislike O'Reily but what he said shows that he is just naive and kinda dumb. Shows he has some stereotypes that should have been debunked long ago had he allowed himself to be open-minded enough to go Harlem years before...but it's also understandable why he would have those narrow-minded views considering the life he lives and the experiences he has. Is he a racist? Probably on some level - but most people are. Should he apologize for what he said? No...because only someone oversensitive should take offense. It's not like he said, "I'm suprised black people are smart". He made a cultural judgement though.
ever been to mississippi? cry a river someone else. bigotry is everywhere and to say that texas is the most bigotry filled state is just, sorry to say, stupid.
Yes nobody should be offended because a major media personality pronounced his assumption that black people didn't have manners, were rude and crazy. Only an over sensitive person would be offended by that.
They are North Carolina style, and none are Texas style. The problem there is that the laws don't allow for the proper smoking technique needed to make real Texas BBQ.
Yes, I've seen the quote you cut and pasted... That doesn't mean it wasn't taken out of context and he wasn't sarcastically making fun of his Grandmother's views. Honestly, I would have to hear the actual soundbite, and not just of the quote itself. I haven't actually heard the soundbite because...well, I don't listen to Bill O'Reilly. Have you actually heard it? I wonder if someone here can post it. Sounds like Sharpton is withholding judgement until he actually hears the context. Something I doubt the bloggers are willing to do. I can't believe I'm defending Bill O'Reilly. What's next, pulling for the titans?
I don't think Bill O' having ignorant stereotypes is particularly newsworthy, but it doesn't mean that what he said wasn't offensive. It was.
Don't be mean to him. He had a black friend when he was younger. Lord knows we don't do that in Texas... His views seem exactly like other bigots, ie. narrow-minded bullsh*t.
Yes, let's talk about context... I was responding to the point that Sharpton had "no problem" with what BillO said. It is not clear he had "no problem" and in fact his words "surprising and disturbing" lead one to believe that the "no problem" attributed to him is false. Reading Is Fundamental. Yep, very small and radical... ABC, NBC, CBS, WaPost, MSNBC, CNN, etc. It's such a small story BillO devoted a good portion of his TV show to defending himself. Also, I should note that we're now all Bill-haters, just as any criticism directed at the the actions of W or the administration makes us Bush-haters. Nice rhetorical device you have there.
yes rim...it was a "big topic" for a day and half until those stations realized that there just wasnt much story there. just like the MIT student and the "bomb" scare...oh wait..Vick tested positive for weed , theres a "big" story. whats the big one today? let me go look to see whats on the front page of cnn...oh yeah, its the rape of that little girl. and tomorrow it will be something else thats "big" news...and of course by big i dont mean the most relevant, important issue of the day. NO i mean whatever they think will make people click on the link or not change the channel. And as of right now, people are changing the channel on the BIll "inncedent" bc its such a trivial and insignificant comment that, at the very MOST, was just poorly chosen words when honestly talking about a race issue...but im sure you've never done such a thing I wonder why i took you off ignore anyways ...stupid me.
I'll go by what FB said regarding the style of BBQ in New York, because my close friend, a native Texan who recently moved back to Austin, lived there quite some time, off and on over a period of decades, is a rabid BBQ lover, had the bread to check out anything, and couldn't find good BBQ. (or Tex-Mex, which, as anyone would know, isn't really "Mexican Food!" )To be fair, I haven't been to those places myself, but if you'll name a couple, I'll check them out the next time I'm in New York. D&D. Impeach Mr. Bankrupting America.
whenever these right wing media types mess up they run to Al for absolution ... sure seems like he's their leader.
Considering he was talking about the time they had lunch together, it seems appropriate. Funny though. The entire broadcast is up @ Fox News now for anyone to go see it. And yet nobody who's bashing is. Telling.
not really, its his radio show comments that have him in the media eye. Al, the right wing media confessor, hasn't even heard the radio comments ...
